EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'm thinking about making a tough decision to open up eggs that might still be alive but haven't hatch on D23. I saw that some people said if the humidity was too high for them then they won't be able to hatch so I didn't really see there being a loss in it and figured I'd ask what others thought on the matter. I'd only crack open the part with the air cell unless any has to say otherwise

When you decide to open it, wait 24 more hours then do it.

4 of my last hatch hatched on day 19. 4 of them hatched on day 22 same incubator. Too many variables when hatching to say what to do.

I have to agree, I just had chicks that hatched on day 23. The temps must have been a tad low in that incubator.

Some breeds are slower hatching than others.

All I mean is if decide now you want to open it wait 24 hours more. if you decide tomorrow wait 24 hours more. There is no rush to open them, IMHO.

Well I'm hoping for a couple to hatch. Three are already dead but I haven't checked since then because of lockdown. Today's D22 so they have two more days. From there I'll see if anyone's alive and I'll experiment. The curiosity is getting the better of me on this one

I think you hit on it, two things we humans have that can actually hurt chicks, Curiosity and the desire to help.

You will learn with each hatch, and then it will be reinforced with each additional hatch.

I know the problem I had with these eggs is the humidity being too high. I read that they won't hatch now due to that but I still wanted to give them a couple days. I figured there would be no loss really

There is a small pip right in the middle, and on the side. This is a Welsummer egg that should be maybe just a couple days late. My kids kept adding after the originals were placed in, and it was always difficult to candle. I shouldn't turn the pip to the top should I? Just leave it? The eggs that were due on the 13th are still alive btw. Idk how but they are.

Do not open the incubator do not touch the egg...

Good luck.
