EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Our first chickie! I'm pretty sure it's a pullet, because they are supposed to be sex linked, and I don't see any white on her head...

Now...advice. Let's say this is the only egg that hatches. Should I probably go buy her a friend or two the same age? She zipped day 21 and hatched 22. There are still three others her age, but no pipping yet, so still waiting to see... one of them is sealed with wax...

Congratulations, if no others hatch you can use a mirror and stuffed animal until you can get a couple.

Thank you, I've heard of the mirror for house chickens... my friend, as well as my daughter's friend, are both getting some Wyandottes that are due the 25. He (the breeder) just wrote me and said he has 4 that were hatched Saturday night as well. I thought maybe we could get those 4 instead of waiting.

Well, I've decided that the next time I update my CV, in the section called "Other Skills", I will add:

"Excellent hen retrieval skills, to include safe and level set up of 8 ft ladder on uneven ground in the dark, and one-handed retrieval of hen from a tree (also in the dark while wearing headlamp).
Specialization in obnoxious Cream Legbar hens intent on winning a Darwin award.

Been sanding and sealing lumber all evening - I'm sure to pay for it with another early morning pain session, so I'm taking a bunch of NSAIDs before bed. Off to see if I can do a read back before collapsing.

I love little goalie pictures - thanks! Made my evening!!!

Can I ask a question? What are the pros and cons of getting a polled goat? I read abut it, but didn't seem to retain it...

good night everybody. Bad day. hand pain is terrible-lost circulation in my hand on saturday. this morning during therapy Bill called frantic-3 of my goslings died between 9pm and 8 am. the ones I saved are in my shower. Its been a rough day. Thank you for all the congrats on the show. I need to get this hand fixed to have any kind of life back though.

Oh, no!!! I'm so sorry about your hand. What happened to the goslings - do you know? Predator attack? How many do you have left? Sending hugs and healing vibes your way.

Quote: I was trying to craft a response, but I'm not very articulate right now - I like the way you put it. Dax, so sorry this happened - it can be a struggle to be positive when something like this sours your relationship with your employer, regardless of the outcome. Praying for peace for you.

OK, I'm beat, I'm gonna head to bed. I'm going to try the wrist brace tonight, maybe that'll help. If I'm back early early in the AM, you'll know it wasn't (although that seems to be the only time I get any inside chores done these days. )
