EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Aha! That's what I was curious about. No clue why; it just popped into my head before I asked you...probably 'cause there was nothing else there taking up space.

Nothing? So all the wise incubating advice seen on this thread whooshed right in one ear and out t'other? :p

My turkey eggs in the incubator ARE A GO!!!! like 6/10 are fertile and developing. One of the developed eggs, has cracks, so I liquid bandaged it and put it in my incubator where I could keep a closer eye on it.

All the other eggs are developing and alive.

I dunno *** I was thinking.

Thanksgiving dinner maybe....I remember you didn't want to eat them and you didn't want to throw them away. So they fell into the incubator. :lau

Quote: Ken, Kim, Keith, Kristen? Hmmm.....possible, I guess.
Now you REALLY sound like my Dad - when he wanted to call one of us, he would run thorough all the names (including the dog's name) until he hit the right one.

He was never wrong that way
Very true...

Quote: There weren't seven of us, but yes, I was called Max (the dog's name) way too many times to count. We still give my father grief about it.

Got invited to a crawfish boil!

Still live at this point.
OMG, OMG, OMG, I am SOOOOOOOOO jealous! (Grew up in New Orleans when I was young, and as a 6 year old child I was a PRO at crawfish - could demolish a huge pile in no time, sucking heads and everything.) Have fun!!!!!

Quote: Thanks - me too! It makes all the difference in the world.

My refrigerbator got some new additions. I don't think it's ever looked this good!

Go Barbiebator, go!!!!!

My copy of the APA SOP finally arrived today. Well worth the money.
I gotta agree. I don't show my birds and am not a freak about SOP (tending more toward production in my goals), but I have learned so much by reading mine. I may or may not have it on my bedside table...

I went to an international school (where we had a curriculum to prepare us for the International Baccalaureate exams and degree - which I have in a box somewhere). Because of this, I had to take Central and South American History and Literature, African History and Literature, and yes, Canadian History. Hard core, extensive essay exams lasting hours, etc. All that being said, I'm afraid I blocked out most of the Canadian History...

But I still have the book we used...

Today was busy - I got a late start, but got most (though not all) done. The day started with finding a scorpion in my sink as I was brushing my teeth (that woke me up really quickly), and later found a baby possum (no bigger than a rat) floating in one of the chicken water pans. Weird. Kept at the yard work, and was still clearing garden beds by moonlight before I realized it was a little nuts to work in the dark, so I'm back inside, will start again tomorrow.

I have a bummer of a question to ask on a Saturday night. I candled day 14 and I had one egg of 16 that looks very different. It's a white bantam polish egg and there is no veining in it. It is also the only one where I can see no movement. All I can say is that I look at it and it seems different. If I shine the light on the blunt end, I see no veins and just a big dark mass near the top. BUT, if I turn it over and candle the other end the contents seem to float to the other end. This one has to be a loss, right? Quarters are so close in my little Brinsea that I really feel like I should remove it this close to hatching. I'm sorry to be so nervous, but I'm just worried silly over my first hatch. Lockdown is Monday and I've got all these others with crazy air cells and everything seems bleak.

Nothing should float from on end to the other. My guess is it is done for. Sorry.
