:barnie hey guys I need to pick your brains. I just had someone I sold 16 Chicks 2 last week message me and say all but four have died. I told her to use medicated feed and I don't know if she did and suggested corrid even though I don't know if that is the problem. She says she built a mama heating pad and put them in a box with wire cover and pine shavings it is an old gardening type box. Other than temperature and coccidia I don't know what to suggest all of my chicks that I still have are fine.
@casportpony

No medicated feed should not have killed them. I would like to see a pic of her set up, thinking they box is to small and got to warm.

Any of you ever kept chickens on shavings-covered concrete? How'd you like it?

I've been thinking about going that way, for a couple of reasons. For one, I could fence a level surface far better than an uneven one, making it more secure & better looking to boot. Secondly, it should cure an ongoing rat problem. From the looks of an increasing number of burrows, there are either multiple rats or one very determined one burrowing under the apron from the outer edge, helping themselves to free eats at will during the day.

I did with some from 6-8 weeks. I put a pile of sawdust down. Had no issues but there were only in the corner of the basement for 2 weeks.

@Sally Sunshine I hope you are well. I just wanted to give you the final hatch report. I got 4 Oliver Eggers. There was one other dead in its shell with a hole in its abdomen. The rest of the eggs were non-starters.
hmmm Peppers eggs were infert? she opened them and checked? no serama??? thats weird

Sunshine and Lollipop (the goslings) got to play outside for a while today. They're such sweet little things :) Sunshine did actually get in and splash around for a while but I was recording at the time. The video didn't even turn out :/ They follow us everywhere. Sunshine is the most cuddly and likes to be held and snuggled. Lollipop doesn't really like to be held much. They have their own brooder now since they thought chick feathers were snacks lol.

I love this picture with the little drop falling from her bill :)

I am so glad your keeping them!!
