EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

@Fire Ant Farm@ChickenCanoe
OK I got a bit off last night starting day five.

Day five starts with Old Faithful and the five miles of Upper Geyser Basin trail(s). Loaded with geysers and many of the most famous features and very much a tourist area.
That afternoon I will get my pack and head out through the Midway geyser basin that includes the Grand Prismatic spring (Google it). Then after seeing some lesser known features it is on to the 197' graceful Fairy Falls. I am going to follow the Fairy Falls trail to the Imperial Geyser trail going left .3 miles to see the Imperial and spray geysers before heading back on the trail to the north to campsite OD4 which is supposed to me about a quarter mile off the main trail with a nice view out into the Imperial Meadows a negative is this site very exposed to the elements so I hope there won't be any huge thunderstorms that night. Then in the morning I will complete the loop out to where I started it's a lollipop Loop.

Day six is my last day. After I complete the lollipop Loop out I have several options for day hikes including the hoodoos and the monument geyser Basin that I talked about earlier or even ice lake with The Wraith Falls. I may just look around some more features or something else that came to my attention. The late afternoon or evening I plan to spend at the Madison Campground which includes a swimming hole and places to fish nearby. Essentially a relaxing afternoon and evening before driving to the airport in the morning.

I enjoyed the read along and it soundsl ike you have a wonderful trip planned. I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Outside for an hour, and one of the geese almost killed itself. Found a pink string used to measure fence lines, and tangled itself up and swallowed over a foot of the line. Luckily, since it was wrapped around it's ankle, I was able to cut it free, an dpull the excess out of it's belly.
glad you were there to help it!!!!

10 Altsterier and 4 mutts. 3 dis 2 died and 2 completely missing. Not sure what she did with those two eggs.
she probably ate them

Found a hona clutch: 22 eggs. And another clutch of 6. What to do... what to do...?

SET ALL EGGS!!!

So, long day, lots of my weekly chicken chores, and at about 8:15 (as I was trying to finish and losing the light), I hit the wall. No lumber or building work tonight - I just totally ran out of gas. Which is bad - I really need to move those chicks outside.

BTW, I ran into my next door neighbor (also a doctor) - told her that I had heard her new rooster - she was excited, just got him this week, and she was gushing about how gorgeous he was. He's been "chatting" back and forth with my boys across the fence. She was saying how she had rebuilt and enlarged the coop (had lost all her previous chickens in a fox massacre a few years ago). I asked her how many chickens she had, and she said "12, no wait, maybe 15... I'm not sure. But now they have babies, so there are those, too..." A good sign in a neighbor!

I'm going to need to take some time next week (maybe some half days) to "Get Er Done!!!!" and get all this building finished. Sooooooo tired....

thats great!!!

And it's much less glacier every year, too; your yard's melting!

I've had both bedroom windows & the adjoining bathroom window wide open all night for the last 2-3 nights; even threw the extra quilt back...overnight temps in the 60's.....eat your heart out!
i'm jealous

GOOD MORNING, AND HAPPY MONDAY! I HOPE ALL OF YOU ENJOYED LOTS OF CANDY YESTERDAY! AND IF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOADING A SMALL CHILD UP ON CANDY, REPORT TO MELTEL. SHE WILL HAVE A SPECIAL TREAT FOR YOU!!
I bet she is glad to help @meltel ROFL!!!

A chesterfield is a really old name for them. I remember my Grandma using them when I was about 5.... Someone using the word today is seriously behind the times....IMHO....
lau.gif
well, we all know that she is super old

I use this site to relieve anxiety. The lack of posts means I'm going to hyperventilate or worse.
hugs.gif
sorry, you could have texted me

It's 5pm somewhere, right? LOL
Yessa!!!

My hatch was on Friday Eve I think, lol 17 ice chicks, 10 OE and 8 serama.

but the big thing that happened was.....

I have a male gosling and two girls hatched Saturday too!! so out of six eggs, one clear, one early DIS, and one zipped and stuck overnight Dead half head out. I am happy that any hatched as those air cells were horrible, the funny thing was that I barely turned them and none were mals at the end!

Hope Easter was nice, kids enjoyed it. Have been doing more and more and trying to get cleaned up and renovations on the porch done so we can get to the pool and a new roof on.
Yay!!! Congrats!!!!
I walked her through it like you did me with my first chicks, but she didn't listen. They were obviously not warm enough.
Here it is before she added mhp the day she got them from me. She said she added it the next day. I will ask if she changed the bedding. I can't imagine not.
i am so sorry Dax
hugs.gif
sounds like a good one not to resell to

and maybe time to SET MORE EGGS!!!!!

Raccoons like tender baby chicks.
yummy little nuggets lol

Prayers please. ASAP my mom was just rushed to the hospital by ambulance
so sorry to hear this Seth
hugs.gif
i hope she is ok, any update @chicken hawk 33

I know right? I even tried to apologize to my kids and tell them i'm a hormonal, raging B.... and my husband goes to my teenager "that's not an excuse that will ever be acceptable as an adult."

And I just looked at him and said "you realize women have been able to use it to plead off murder before in the past, right?"

:p
Love your logic here!!!

So are 3 prescription totalling 13 pills a day and over 1000 mg of medicine really going to be the answer for a sore back?
hugs.gif
thats a lot of pills, i hope they are able to cut back soon

oh dang! I got my first New Marans egg!! I forgot to take a pic! I will do so later, I am so excited!
Yayyy!!! i want to see!!

I better get to gettin, Dad called in a panic, "da# hen has no feathers on her back above her tail, I am just gonna eat them all"
lau.gif
he says he too dang old to be catching chickens, I said I be up with bluekote and a hen saddle, he said what??? I said go about your day I take care of it.
gig.gif
Gotta love him
ROFL!!!

This baby really moves the air and it is quiet. Salvaged it from a broken air hockey table.
where did you find it??

Sounds accurate to a T. Maybe I'm not missing out. 4 deployments and a 5th(that would have been worse than the previous 4 combined but got cancelled a week before moevment). I'm surprised it didn't make it into my training.
i wouldnt tell anyone that, they might try and surprise you

Thank you. He is literally chick number 6 that the kids and I have hatched. As odd as it was, I thought perhaps there was a logical explanation...
sorry, i havent but i agree that it looks like dried membrane, it turns brown

@mlm Mike @daxigait and who else has kept goats forever?

I had the farrier out to look at Beaux's hooves and try to shape them up for me. He worked on it a but but said he's never seen anything quite like it. He said Beaux is walking on the balls (?) of his hooves and stands like a horse does when it has foundered. His back hooves are the worst. I took more pics today, hoping we can get some suggestions? He said he's going to do some research, and that he'll try anything that is suggested. He didn't charge me for the trim.

Both back hooves.

this needs to be trimmed back

his heels have grown out waaaaay too far
it should look like this

did you read that link that Sally posted I think it's on page 1699 I copied it but it didn't copy the link part period She said something about hips and lips being different with turkeys
hips and lips are very different, lol, sorry i know you are on a phone but reading this was funny

Any further word from CH about his momma being taken to the hospital?
nope
hmm.png

I am ripped with six pack abs.....ok about a 4 1/2 pack, but I am in really good shape.
and wheres the proof
pics or it didnt happen lol

And I am worried what 13 pills a day will do to me.
you should prob ask your doctor, and if any of the meds will interact with the others or inhibit effectiveness

I never got to it, we lost one of our girls last night. The seizure girl, dont know if I have it in me today either, I am miserable as well.

Its easier for me to copy from FB than try and explain again...

We are devastated at the loss our Beautiful Sophia to a set of seizures of unknown origin. She started with grand mals yesterday and at some point from then until this afternoon her brain was terribly damaged. So horrible to watch all this and unbearably upsetting. Hurts so bad my poor Beautiful girl. This year just sucks so bad I want it over.

4ft fence

Scared the chickens half to death.
lau.gif
I put the goats in my backyard and the dummies broke the small coop, so all my honas are mixed up now.
barnie.gif

love.gif
i want a chocolate brown donkey!!!

You're missing out
wink.png

....Then hurl it across the room at Ralphie.
he could be calling you a cow

Thank you for the advice and warning on the eyes. I was huddled in my daughters bedroom, trying not to draw attention to myself. Both the older kids get it that stuff dies and sometimes life doesnt go as we expect but I decided that might be a bit much for a 9 and 10 year old. Heck it was almost too much for me. She caught me towards the end(after I had cleaned up) and asked where the eggs went. I explained what had happened and I knew alot of really smart people and was going to see if we could figure out what might have happened with the hatch. She wasn't a fan, she would have been fine to leave the eggs for another cycle while holding on to hope they might hatch.
were they pullet eggs?
how long did you store before set?
breeder nutrition?

my 5yo has helped me eggtopsy

Ain't worrying, I just wanna know why and how much. Don't really care about the egg one way or t'other, just something funny I noted.

Candle too much, quite possibly. It's just fun.
lol.png

It's day 3-ish? Was under a broody so not sure when she got really serious.

I turned it about 3 cm to the right and then to the left. Didn't spin it, just shifted it enough to see that it had a rather large range of motion. If that hurts it, than normal turning is gonna kill it real quick, you'd think?

Thanks.
I'm not suggesting it would hurt it. I think the idea is to let it settle so you can see more details.
I have never candled a lot. Most of the time I couldn't see a thing. I think my current flashlight is 420 lumens and for the first time I can see an embryo move in extremely dark eggs. I still can't see much in the line of veins though.
This is what I have to candle.

They will, but anyone wussy enough to be mentally scarred over an eggtopsy needs 'help'. Just my opinion.

I've enjoyed it all. Have you estimated how many total miles you'll be hiking/backpacking and pack/trail riding?

I am looking forward to it, but I may need a vacation with a bed from my vacation.
big_smile.png

You'll need to go to work to rest up.
Have you been climbing, hiking, working out to build up?

One egg that had a few pips hadnt changed. I took it out and opened up the pip. It was dead :hit no peeping or moving. If only i had intervened sooner :hit. Little later a toddler got in the room and opened the incubator. Thankfully i grabbed the toddler and closed the lid. But now i am worried sick. Will they be okay? How do i tell if the eggs are resting or if they need help? :(

I have one that started unzipping but hasnt done anything as far as i can see lately. [should i intervene?!

Nice eggs. If i remeber correctly it seems as though you mentioned the penedesencas not being a recognized breed and trying to get them recognized. Doing some limited research on them yesterday I'm confused how they have four recognized color variations but they aren't recognized. Often times people and stories run together and get mixed up in my mind so I could have them confused? Very nice eggs either way.

You'll need to go to work to rest up. Have you been climbing, hiking, working out to build up? [/quote] Valid points on building up. Being a distance runner I know how quickly a blister can come up and ruin plans. Made the mistake of trying to push through on my 2nd marathon. Half my shoe was covered in blood and lost 3 toenails after that race. Learned to properly break in shoes and listen to my body, a hotspot is an indicator and soon turns to a blister. Hiking is no different and maybe more severe when it comes to blisters. I messed up the qoutes somehow and the more I try to fix it the more I mess it up. My comments in blue.
