Well I took out the ducklings and put the thermometer back up so I could see it's display, And now that the ducklings are gone I can tell you, yes, the pipped one is peeping.
@DwayneNLiz . I can't believe how my older magpies have grown! The little ones are as big as their heads! And in 5 weeks!

A little advice please! I will try and keep it short. I have a blue ameraucana who pipped the wrong end of the egg(shipped egg) at day 19, and zipped itself free today (day 20), but when it kicked out of the egg, the yolk was not fully absorbed and there was a lot of bleeding. As soon as I noticed at my hourly check, I took it out and the inner membrane was still attached with a chunk of shell. I dabbed flour on it and got the bleeding to stop. Removed the chunk of shell. The chick is in a food storage bowl in the bator, but I'm not sure if it's going to make it. It is breathing shallowly and barely moves if I tap on the bator window. The chick was pretty big for the size shell it was in, and the egg also had a saddle shaped air cell. This was my first time with shipped eggs, and I don't think I like doing it. Is there anything I need to do for the chick, or just let it be? It's been 5 hours since I found it like this, and the yolk seems to be absorbing, and the membrane attached looks like it's drying out some, but the chick is still just laying there.

you got good advice, any update?

I stuck an extra 8-9 chicks under my broody who already had 3 babies she accepted... so far, she's allowed all of them to hang out under her. They are about 3? days old.

She seems fine with them. We'll give her a couple days before turning her loose again with all her new babies.

Thanks to all for the advice yesterday. I did help it get unstuck, and I worried about it all night last night. This morning, it still looked a little weak.. I went to work all day, and when I got home, it was running around in the incubator, eating shells, etc. I took it out and it's feisty and happy now! Legs and feet are normal, and it's an adorable grey color. Thanks again!

Ps. I'm now watching #2 of 3. Pipped around 6pm, and is a tiny bit unzipping. They are (were) due tomorrow, so I guess they didn't all want to hatch at once so I could watch them... I guess it's almost tomorrow.. 11pm here... technically will be tomorrow before it hatches I assume.

Good morning everyone,
Quick question to those expierenced hatchers.
I am on day 20 and currently in lockdown. When I put the single egg into lockdown (shipped egg) yesterday, I candles and it still had a bit of empty space on the bottom of the egg.
We had 2 short power outages early into incubation, so I waited a bit to put into lockdown because I realized this may have delayed the hatch a bit.
When I say short outage, I am talking 2-3 hours tops.
In your expierence do these short outages seem to delay hatches by days or hours?
Also I will add that I let all the shipped eggs rest for a bit too long(5 days)

, so that may be why I only have 1 left! LOL!!!
But at least those aircells were rock solid!!!

I suspect you are correct with the humidity. I was leaning towards the possibility of pullet eggs being the cause yesterday. However, my broody started her hatch yesterday and is having substantially better success. She was sitting on a dozen and has at least 8 out(from the same assortment that I had in the bator). I suspect she might have a few more but she's grumpy and I ain't pushing my luck.

Afternoon all. Today was candle day at the school with the 2nd graders. They were more excited this time than the first time. We were able to see lots of movement and all 7 eggs are developing nicely. YAY! The 4th grade teacher ended up asking me to come to her classroom and candle with them also, as they have been studying birds.
