Hi everyone! This is my first time hatching, and I am probably being a worry wart; but last night at about 9:30 or 10 pm one of my chicks pipped, then zipped, its been 15 hours and it hasn't made any progress. I can see a little bits of its body poking out of the zip, and its chirping like crazy. But when it tries to roll around and get out of the egg, it can't and it just starts chirping again. I am really worried about it, and another egg pipped yesterday afternoon, but it hasn't made any progress either. But they are both still chirping and rolling the egg around. Should I assist? I am really scared that they might not make it. That's the zipping chick :/

What day are you on? I would hold off assisting unless it is day 22. Openig the bator reduces the likelihood of the rest hatching without assistance

Sometimes I use the tip of a kitchen knife, because I like to live on the edge.

Liz, I did not push the outie belly button back in. I didn't pull it out, it was grown that way like the stalk of a mushroom and the yolk ball was the cap. Wish I had taken a before pic.

Also I can't "do" stumps. Blood, gore, poop, vomit, that's all fine. Stumps and teeth, nope. I've had to leave the room when my kid lost a tooth eating supper.

Mine does to and I use it for chicks. I find it a stupid box to require for eggs, So being kind of anti government I checked female just to see what would happen....

I am now waiting for them to call and ask me how I sex the eggs...My response will be easy, I claim 85-90% accuracy on some breeds, on eggs I claim 50% accuracy...

It might be stupid but it is a lot of information for a universal form with lots of tiny boxes on a 5X8" sheet of paper. And it doesn't just apply to backyard and small flock holders. It is for all the commercial, primary breeders and multipliers across the country.
Just check all the boxes that apply and quit complaining.

lol, to start a pip/safety hole i have used many things, knives, push pins, screw, nail, scissors, whatevers lying around
