EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

I especially enjoyed the second half, where he's steam bending solid wood and explaining the microscopic physics of it. :D

Nope! Easiest I ever plucked, dip them in hot water and you realize how naked they actually are, just strips of feathers, looks are deceiving.

Mink oil is very popular here for waterproofing. Though maybe most don't know where it actually comes from ;)

Yeah, I had flipped one of the S&G broiler NN chicks to replace his leg band (he was squirming), and snapped a photo of his belly while he was there. He's only a heterozygote - the homozygotes have even fewer. You pick them up and under those feathers you're mostly feeling smooth skin, with just some lines of feathers...

They are native, not too common either. (So I've read)

Nice. That's interesting. It's probably the nuts that'll lay dormant
Apparently they've laid dormant since the blight way back many yrs ago that killed them all off. My brother who bought my old place said some guy was up behind his place treating? Chestnut trees, my buddy back there completely dozed off his place before he built, guy said that's what brought them on and asked him if he wanted to treat, inoculate, whatever he was doing, his trees. I didn't know I had chestnuts up there, neither did he. Guess they might come back.
Now I'm going to spend the rest of the night googling and researching the subject.... :caf:lau

That's cool, they're like back ups, some sprout and some don't for decades in case something happens to the parent plants. It's amazing how well planned those things always seem to be. :bow

Lol, as am I.
