EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Phew, finally its a bit quiet.

So I got over the cold yesterday.... but then I have been sick all over again today with a small headache as well. :barnie

I dont know why I have been sick so much lately, and getting headaches a lot. Last year was nothing like that.

Stupid meat ants. They got into my Quail pen and literally ate the poor female Quail ALIVE! We didn't get to her in time, and the poison killed her........the male Quail has a big head wound but didn't get covered in meat ants so I'm hoping he will make it. I didn't change the Quails food this morning because of me being sick, and even though it's not meat, it attracted the meat ants, who though Quail tastes nice.....

3 bird they have killed.

Thank god it's a holiday! Getting the garden work done today, bought baby cucumbers and peppers for the field yesterday as well as the weed screen. The goal is to get the plot leveled, covered, staked, and get things in the ground today.

Baby's test results still aren't in! Gettin' tired of waiting to see whether we're having a boy or a girl.:barnie

We've also bought our plane tickets, and our Texas trip is locked in for 23 June until 13 July. Got a feeder on standby in my Ebay cart so the in-laws don't need to go out and feed the birds as often. Holds 64 ounces (so about 2 kg) which is nice.

Husband's mom is planning a big shopping trip for baby furniture and supplies when we find out the gender. Generous budget too, so I can get basically anything I want. Going by IKEA at some point to get the crib, changing table, and other furniture necessities and hopefully I can get my breast pump and stroller/car seat system (with reimbursement from the insurance for the pump). Diaper stuff (should we get everything ourselves) comes out to $131.62 total for 30 cloth diapers and 5 covers, so we're totally set with diapers!

So busy days over here. How's everyone else??
Busy! Busy!
May I make a suggestion? Cloth diapers can be ordered that are diaper and cover in one! They have velcro sides, and you can get all kinds of designs!

GOOD MORNING, AND HAPPY THURSDAY!! DON'T BE A DRIP TODAY!

I'm stuck on Abi's post of 7:04, though it is right nice to look at ;)
Not sure whether it's just that dead in here or the weather's messing with me.
Either way, I guess I'll go occupy myself in the shed a while. BBL

Whew...slow in here this morning!

Morning everyone!

My classroom chicks are 4 weeks old and officially outside. I finally have my bathroom back and spent a while cleaning it last night, was nice to not have to worry about the chicks and stench this morning!

Yup.

I have a lot of this going on in some of my older growout coops - I was outside this evening, and it's really escalated. I will need to work my way through culling them starting again this weekend.

:(

:drool

I am just taking a break - I have tons still to do, grading and then also making space for the new fridge before delivery. When all I really want to do is fall asleep NOW. :(

So, I better go get some more stuff done. It's going to be another long night.

Mr. Peepers was delicious ^.^ A little tough, but he was older than you'd normally butcher. But, he was good. Kids ate him. My toddler was cackling like a little loon, he knew it was "mr peepers" he was eating and it was funny to him for some reason. He did say "he hurt me, now I eat him" at one point ^.^

I may, or may not have stuck a duck egg in my incubator, just to check fertility and see if I can hatch a duck or not.

Mr. Peepers is dead, so no more turkey eggs will be fertile after the next couple weeks. I have plenty of turkeys to pick from, and it took maybe 15 mintues for him to butcher and de-feather the turkey, so dad's not so against butchering a big turkey now. So, we may keep and butcher all the turkeys except 1 or 2 that are really nice.

You had him go to Chickie heaven and ate him in the same day, Correct?

I find if they lay around in the fridge in a nice plastic bag or in ice water they seem to be a lot more tender...and they appreciate the time to get use to their new state of existence..
