View attachment 549605 Morning all. I'm sitting at the vet school with my little Pumpkin for some liver tests.
:hugs so sorry :hugs i hope it went well

So where did the green corner tab go that shows when people are online?
its still there  unless they went invisible

'fraid it's gone. :hit
:hugs sorry
I don't have a dog in this fight, but do ducks or chickens either one eat toads? A dog won't eat a toad; they can release a foul-tasting substance that most animals find extremely unpleasant. I can't imagine ducks or chickens being any different.
i know they eat frogs but i have never tried a toad, i may have to catch some and find out...
Thanks @mlm Mike. The testing alone is about to do me in! They ended up saying it was not a portosystemic shunt issue, then went to a neuro issue, neuro said they couldn't find anything wrong; now they are worried about her possibly having a bone marrow problem (i.e. cancer). She's only 7 months, so they kept saying that is highly unlikely, won't know for about two more weeks. :(
:hugs :hugs did we find out any more info??

Nope! She thought calamari was a vegetable.
ROFL!!! mmmm calamari :drool

I never had calamari but it looks :sick.

Sometimes looks can fool you so maybe it would be good.
you should try it

:hitFeather-brain, the crested magpie died. It has been raining and the broody pen is a puddle. I think he go to wet, maybe because he got stepped on, because he liked to sit in the way till he was pushed out of the way...He was so cute...

:hugs sorry

Not issues, well not big issues...Just a little germophobic is all
Really??!!!?!?!?!?! YOU are a germophobe, i woulda never guessed :lau

Hi guys. Nothing in the 'bator at the moment but I had a Buff O hen hatch out 4 of 5 OEGB eggs last Monday and an OEGB hen sitting on 4 more due to hatch in 10 days.

About the post count......don't you guys ever sleep?
sleep? what is that??

We had to put a 6 week old down during the switch over. Classic MD paralysis. We kept hoping she would fight it into remission but when she stopped eating we knew things weren't going to go the way we hoped. I have one rooster who isn't doing well. Poor boy just keeps getting one infection after another. He limped around for two days and now his whole foot is ballooned up. We thought maybe bumble foot. No kernel but a definite puncture of some sort. He's on antibiotics and soaks now and the whole flock is on antibiotics just to cover in case he has a staph or strep infection in the foot. Two months ago he had some sort of throat infection.

Good news is so far the rest of the OEGBs are looking good. I keep hoping for things to settle down with the Standard sized flock. Thanks for asking Banty.
:hugs i hope it stops for you soon :hugs

90 and 95 here last couple days, everyone is crying...boo hoo, "It's too hot" waaant crybabies.... I think it snowed a couple weeks ago. I'm lovin it!
Just had a nice down pour rain. Off to pick night crawlers. Think I'll take the 4yr old boy out trout fishing in my favorite holes tomorrow morning. Be one of the few times I get to take one kid out fishing instead of a half a dozen, can't fish small brook trout streams with that many, no fun. He better keep his mouth shut or his sisters will be PO'd :lau
how'd fishing go??

:barnie
I think I'm in a wasp horror movie...
Feeding the young one's this morn in the garage. Lost my balance stepping out of the brooder, caught myself against a hay bale. Ow ouch wow, thought a piece of hay was poking me, nope wasp stinging me on the lower ankle, wearing flip flops...great place to be stung going on vacation next week an have to walk thousands of miles....
Just went to go outside to pick night crawlers, reached up to grab a pack of cigars on back room shelf, ouch wow something poked me, wth, wasp...
Who the heck gets stung on the thumb? Now my dang thumbs swelling up. I ain't going to be able to play on my phone :barnie
:hugs time to put out the bucket trap that @ChickenCanoe suggested

I feel SOO LUCKY! I have a bunch of beautiful ladies following me now! I think I will move to Beverly Hills, and start a career in the show biz. !:lau

LOL!! :thumbsup

Last evening heard a commotion in the coop, and looked to see chickens running out, followed by a raccoon. :barnie It got away before Debbi could bring me Dr. Winchester. Darn thing came so early most the birds hadn't even gone into the coop yet.
Did you get it yet??

Yes. It did get some the other day when I forgot to close up the coop. Now it is coming earlier while chickens are still out.
:hugs i hope you got it

Morning all. What is the basis to determine ones sanity?
ummm why? who cares

I am the baseline for sanity.
uh oh

quod sic. Hoc enim Latine. EGO sum usura a computer quia sermonem interpretari, sed ego scio quod aliqua res ab corde.
huh?

Chaos, your signature is interesting.
he's had the same one forever, and you are JUST noticing it??

This bear?

:lau Just Kidding!
LOL, i cant believe you remembered that picture! thats a big bear in that picture!

Hi guys. It seems like it has been forever. First there was be YC's change over, and then this week has been a disaster with My Goats. It was very close on one of them but they all survived. @Sally Sunshine I have not had time to read through your list, but if you do not have clostridium antitoxin in your supply box you need to get it. They can die very fast even if they have been given the CDT vaccine if it has not had time to kick in yet like with my three-week-old. It was a very long night.

@BantyChooks my two broodies sitting side-by-side are sitting tight. Eggs went under them on the 10th.
glad you didnt lose any goats :hugs sorry oyu had to go through that, good luck on the broodies!!

Est-ce-que Parlet Francais?
your French needs work, like a lot of it

*awkward clapping* your french *cough* it's uh...
LOL exactly

Je ne comprend pas....
at least thats correct, you must use it often?? lol, just picking on you

ummm, Merci
thank you

My other big news:

2017-05-19.jpg

Not certain which of these two actually hatched it. I suspect the black one and the other said why sit twenty one days when I can just take this one.

The black Icelandic had been missing, and I thought lost to a predator. SO I was real happy to see her.
awww, congrats!!! is this the hen you thought you lost to the raccoon??

Hello MC! Um, why does the coffee shop need poison control?
why wouldnt a coffee shop want poison control??

Morning guys. Now I just need to figure out how to renavigate the website with out breaking my head.
:hugs we'll help you

awww Love him!!! :love

The only badges I ever got were the year badges. I wonder if they're bringing those back?
they are, slowly

OK, so I'm finished. Despite the late start, I managed to cull the twelve 12-week-old demonic cockerels in 4-1/2 hours today (skinned them, so went fast). And WOW - using that Husky flexible tube cutter was SO easy and wonderful! I don't have large hands, and in addition, their strength isn't great right now due to some flaring carpal tunnel. But I had no problem decapitating in one stroke. For fully feathered birds, there was always a strip of skin left in the front (which was good - if you hold the head away from the severed neck at an angle, there's more bleed out). For Naked Necks, full decapitation. Haven't used it on an older bird yet, but this was so astonishingly effortless that I'm sure it will work for them as well. I can't imagine that an axe is easier, really. Very impressive.

Now going to read back and then nap.
awesome!! but i kept thinking you were using this type of cutter:
pACE2-982992dt.jpg

lol, i was wondering how it would work on a chicken :lau

Hi peeps. Just finished readback. Been a rough week-I will leave it at that. thanks for keeping me entertained. Chicks, ducks and beepers are good-except for A**hole. he attacked me for the last time and got me on the wrong day-did not think I was capable of such a thing . Birds in the coops seem much happier with him gone. glad to see all the antics continue. :hugsHope all is well:love
:hugs i thought ahole had already been taken care of :hugs glad he is gone though :hugs

We compost them. My compost bins are a pretty good distance from my front porch. There are 3 bins, so as long as you get it in the area, you have a good chance of getting them in. If you overshoot, they end up in my garden. My family throws them, and they try to hit a target they set up. I on the other hand, walk them over and dump them in. Then I use a shovel to bury them.
LOL!!!

So apparently trying to do something kind and helpful for someone with chickens got my post deleted from facebook!!! It was on chicken butts and crazy clucks. Someone posted a question and i guess her post was ignored/missed because there was some kind of drama about women posting pics of their body parts instead of chickens . so the lady reposted asking for help and I suggested she join here and check it out as you guys have helped me so much. (I truly had no idea any issues were happening as they were already closed or deleted.) I gave the facebook link to BYC and these 2 lovely ladies both replied with several snarky remarks to my post an then my post was removed but their replies still remained????? The lady never got a reply(and still hasn't as far as I can tell)-valid questions regarding housing and if citronella candles/fumes were toxic to chickens... Man I think the detention bus misses me, took a detour & made a right at facebook lane!!!!:p Funny think is for once in my life I was trying to be nice and helpful instead of inappropriate and sarcastic :duc I better stick to what I am good at-drinking wine, dark sick humor and poison control......
:lau :lau

I know I'm blonde and polish and on a lot of meds right now and not sleeping but I totally even missed them being mean:lau:lau) Their replies were so stupid and the persons question was valid and unanswered so why not send her to a place that could help her and not belittle her (she even had good grammar!!! :celebrate) I just considered the source when i saw their profile pics-both looked like 50 year old prostitutes trying to look like 20 year olds making duck lips-not becoming on old, saggy, overtanned leather skin with bad boob jobs  And I'm back to normal :yesss:
ROFL!! there are even more reasons to not be on fbook

Thanks guys... It's bad and getting worse. I would be happy to ride the detention bus with any of you-it's some of the creepy facebook people I worry about  ps I can't wait to tell Bill that the basement took on water AGAIN when he wakes up :hit so much for buying from family and having them tell you it only took on water once in the 8 years they lived here and we have been through 3 sump pumps plus a backup that has saved our butts, 2 major floods just had the drain snaked 1 month ago and Bill digs out by the drainpipe and checks for clogs at least once a week! :he I want a tiny house with 20 acres no basement and a heated barn. So done with this place!!!:mad::mad:
:hugs come to nh with your tiny house!!! i am looking at 50 acres right now!!!

Yeah that's rough.......i hope its better better tomorrow. We were supposed to go today but my friend called it off til tomorrow.
I went looking for mushrooms today..... lots of fiddleheads......
mmm fiddleheadds, just missed those here unfortunately

I'm working on getting some work done. Going back up to SA tomorrow for another DR apt.

After abusing all the eggs in my incubator, I have a 95% hatch rate/survival rate after hatch. WTF. LOL I did EVERYTHING wrong.
thats awesome!!

Can't wait to learn what "XD" is.
a smile that screws up your face it is so big and goofy

Well, that only took the vast majority of my day off and on. Readback taken care of.

Siginificant changes on my horizon.
Looks like I will be moving back to Alaska front of the year. Better than it could have been but it will be an adjustment.
Suspect we will be living on base which means no chickens(or any farm animals)??
:hugs i hope you can talk her into quail they are cute and make fun noises

Done did, they got me after they knew they had me. This rotation will take me to my 20 though.
thats great!!

So, I did day 21 candle on the ducks. Well, there's six still alive, and that's all the good I can say about them.

The CAMs are HORRIBLE. Just horrible. They only cover half the egg in 5/6 of the eggs. There is no way they can develop any more... The tops of the eggs look full like eggs at lockdown but they're still a week away from hatch. Only one egg has a complete enough CAM to have any hope for it at all.

Also, they have weird clotty things in the bottom part of the CAM, which I have not seen nor read about before. Any ideas, s'il te plaît?
:fl :fl good luck!!!

Thanks. All these are definitely alive, they're just doomed, poor things. One looks to be on its way out though.

It happens. They were shipped, and it's always a game of roulette with them. Maybe #1 will make it despite the clots---the CAM was okay on that one.
they may surprise you!!!!

awesome!!! will the wood mess with the humidity much??

Good Morning all.

@BantyChooks I can't remember the tag I'm supposed to use, but I have a broody setting on 13 eggs.

When I NEEDED a broody to take the classroom chicks, I didn't have one. Now that the classroom chicks are too old, I have a broody. :barnie:barnie
LOL, always need more chicks around, just dont let my hubby see inside my bator :D

Tags don't work for hatcher updates now, I am going to have to figure out something else.
you have it set wrong, i can help you

View attachment 632489 Cooked all my duck eggs for breakfast. None looked fertile. :(
Yummy!! used to be one of my faves growing up! post a pic of the egg and see if everyone agrees with you about the fertility

I just ordered the Little Giant 9300 still air incubator and was wondering if it can be used without adding a fan to it. Any success stories of people using it without a fan?

Good evening all. okay it's been a long time since I've been home. but searching Granny's thread I saw wear white was having heart trouble. How is he doing now.
HI!!!!! welcome back!!!

You know... I've done everything wrong the last month and a half with my incubating, and have a 95% hatch/survival rate. ^.^ I couldn't kill these eggs if I tried.... now the cat did manage to steal and scare a turkey to death :( Poor turkey. But, it was the dogs fault, he went in there to see the birds in the brooder and the cat just wanted to see the turkey, he wasn't hurting it, but he gave it a heart attack.

Definitely a Ralphie.
:hugs lol it just wanted to play with it

Good morning
Teenagers are stupid.
LOL, still having trouble with your son??

I'll know more next week. I just started our second cycle. On the same regime as last month, but later starting in the cycle to give my ovaries time to clear up.

We are good to go, and I just finished oral meds, and started shots last night... so i go back friday, then hopefully trigger tues-thurs next week and then were back to the two week wait to find out.

:(

--- We killed one of our roosters yesterday. He was pestering my daughter, and made her drop a dozen eggs when jumping at her egg basket. So dad... disposed of him.

We are butchering our big male tom, who hates boys since we have so many new turkeys to pick a nice tom from.... hopefully our pot is big enough to accomodate his body, because I don't want to just throw him away. :(
:fl :fl :fl

thanks. Yes can you believe it. I suckered her in to marrying me. And it didn't take but a case of vodka.
Congratulations!!

Hello! I just figured out how to quote someone. I am doing good, just sold 3 cockerels. Too many chickens in my yard right now! I have a buyer for 4 pullets though, just have to wait 2 more weeks till she picks them up. Then I will only have 9 left. The lady who is taking the pullets is going to board a cockerel for me for the summer, so hopefully in the Fall I will have him back & be hatching out some of my own chicks! Can't wait.
Thats great!! cant wait to hear more about your trip!!!

:frow Hey folks. I'd be online more if I didn't feel so bad. Been running some bad (but not super high) fevers and coughing like there's a sauna in my lungs. Been super dizzy too. :th I want to take a nap, but I can't.
:hugs hope you feel better soon!!!

I
yep only 1case. Took her to the church when she was passed out. Only problem is she's been running from me ever since and I can't catch her. What's the best trap for a woman? I can lure her close with shinny objects but once she sees me she's gone again.
lol, diamonds are a girls best friend, but banti gave a good suggestion too, and wine :)

Dad successfully butchered mr. peepers, and put him in the oven for dinner ^.^
and now what about the ducks??

Hatching season is going to have to wrap up soon, so not much more time to try again on ducks.
Maybe one or two of the ones with better CAMs will still hatch. :fl
ummmm, you are mistaken there

Phew, finally its a bit quiet.

So I got over the cold yesterday.... but then I have been sick all over again today with a small headache as well. :barnie

I dont know why I have been sick so much lately, and getting headaches a lot. Last year was nothing like that.

Stupid meat ants. They got into my Quail pen and literally ate the poor female Quail ALIVE! We didn't get to her in time, and the poison killed her........the male Quail has a big head wound but didn't get covered in meat ants so I'm hoping he will make it. I didn't change the Quails food this morning because of me being sick, and even though it's not meat, it attracted the meat ants, who though Quail tastes nice.....

3 bird they have killed.
holy cow!! meat ants??!!?!??!!! i just looked them up, no thanks!!! :hugs so sorry for your loss and i hope you feel better

Thank god it's a holiday! Getting the garden work done today, bought baby cucumbers and peppers for the field yesterday as well as the weed screen. The goal is to get the plot leveled, covered, staked, and get things in the ground today.

Baby's test results still aren't in! Gettin' tired of waiting to see whether we're having a boy or a girl.:barnie

We've also bought our plane tickets, and our Texas trip is locked in for 23 June until 13 July. Got a feeder on standby in my Ebay cart so the in-laws don't need to go out and feed the birds as often. Holds 64 ounces (so about 2 kg) which is nice.

Husband's mom is planning a big shopping trip for baby furniture and supplies when we find out the gender. Generous budget too, so I can get basically anything I want. Going by IKEA at some point to get the crib, changing table, and other furniture necessities and hopefully I can get my breast pump and stroller/car seat system (with reimbursement from the insurance for the pump). Diaper stuff (should we get everything ourselves) comes out to $131.62 total for 30 cloth diapers and 5 covers, so we're totally set with diapers!

So busy days over here. How's everyone else??
So exciting!!!! when are you due??

Mr. Peepers was delicious ^.^ A little tough, but he was older than you'd normally butcher. But, he was good. Kids ate him. My toddler was cackling like a little loon, he knew it was "mr peepers" he was eating and it was funny to him for some reason. He did say "he hurt me, now I eat him" at one point ^.^
ROFL!!!!!

I may, or may not have stuck a duck egg in my incubator, just to check fertility and see if I can hatch a duck or not.

Mr. Peepers is dead, so no more turkey eggs will be fertile after the next couple weeks. I have plenty of turkeys to pick from, and it took maybe 15 mintues for him to butcher and de-feather the turkey, so dad's not so against butchering a big turkey now. So, we may keep and butcher all the turkeys except 1 or 2 that are really nice.
:clap

You had him go to Chickie heaven and ate him in the same day, Correct?

I find if they lay around in the fridge in a nice plastic bag or in ice water they seem to be a lot more tender...and they appreciate the time to get use to their new state of existence..
bird in ice-water, or in a bag in the ice-water??

Also a little known fact, a Turkey hen can have a fertile egg with no tom around and having never been with a tom. It takes real special conditions to occur but it does and can. The chick/poult is always male and once it is born normal sexual reproduction occurs.
Weird :hmm

Two of the little puppies. They are two weeks old on saturday.View attachment 1017047 View attachment 1017048
you got puppies???

Liz, are you ever going to catch up ?
Nope

Probably not.
