Sure you don't just have a broken nose like I do?

I ahve an overly sensitive nose. I smell things no one else can smell.... I smell everything... so the fact I missed it is odd. I've had one before that stank and exploded outside.... but this one barely smelled. I smelled it once it exploded, and it wasn't even that stinky compared to the other one, which was completely vomit worthy.

What a day. All done - culled all 10 today. For some reason I decided to dry pluck the Naked Necks. I've done it before - it's not that much longer than scalding, and I am bad about "cooking" the skin a bit when scalding. But I think I must have done it before on younger birds with fewer feathers - these were crosses with the New Hampshires, and had what I would judge as more feathers than usual NN heterozygotes have (there were even a few hairs). So, did I stop? No. :he I stubbornly persisted in dry plucking six of them before finally giving up (because a thunderstorm was coming and it was getting dark), and so I breezed through the final four by skinning. Just took some naproxen for my shoulder and wrist - mental note, next time, when plucking (not skinning), no more than about 4 or 5 a day....

Managed to finish and scrub down everything before it started thundering. Then with the last shred of energy I had, I went to get take out at my favorite old fashioned Italian restaurant. Let's hope I can stay awake enough to eat and read back... :th

For being nearly straight south of me, in the same time zone, I find it amazing how much sooner you get dark than we do. We have another 90 minutes or so to go.

Love the "breezed through part". :lau
Enjoy dinner

When my Internet came back on, the first email I saw was for chocolate chip cookie dough frozen yogurt. "Banti would love that!" was my first thought.

Then I saw this, and KNEW I had to share!

That helped, thanks. I got a few hours.

Thanks!!!! It helped today - needed all the caffeine I could get! :hugs

WOW! You really CAN hear the ocean! :)
:lau:lau:lau:lau Laughed out loud at this...

Tell me one thing that proves that I'm crazy. :pop
(Yes, limit yourself to one.)
:duc:duc:duc

Dan, I'm coming to snuggle them. :love

x1000!!!!

It's like a trillion degrees down here.

Celsius or Fahrenheit?

My poor chickens were standing out there, while we hosed them down, i thought one of my polish crested was going to die, she's not doing very well. She's literally been laying in the pool of water, trying to cool off, and there's nothing else I can do to help her, she wouldn't lay on the block of ice i put out there.... dunno why.

I NEVER sweat, but it was so hot yesterday with the humidity, I was sweating, it was the oddest feeling. ^.^

So sorry to hear - yesterday was so bad. I have a rule that I don't keep any birds that struggle too much with the heat, but once it gets over about 97F, they all pant a little. I find that for my chickens, it's a little like it is for me - the first really hot day of summer is misery, but then they adapt throughout the summer and the same temperature in August doesn't cause the same issues. For milder distress, I put ice in their water pan and I'll pick them up and put their feet in the cold water and hold them there - it's amazing how well that works. I'm sure you know this, but a dunk in a bucket of cool (not cold) water helps if they are really in distress. (Fortunately, there's a front coming through and it's going to cool off tomorrow here.)

Dog killed the ONLY rooster I was going to keep. I'm mad enough to quarter and roast that beast.

On the upside, I have external pips.

Argh!!!!!! :hugs (This is the reason I waited until my geriatric greyhound died before I got any chickens...)

I can hear peeping from the bator. :love

:clap:wee:ya:celebrate

I can't find the stupid turkey. :barnie
Unfortunately, she was in the pile of lumber and wire from my run that collapsed. The duckling was chasing after her, and got his head stuck in chickenwire. He was dangling, and kicking his wittle webbies. Wooking so coot! ( :lau added for Banti) I'm hoping he doesn't do it again. I'll obviously try to find somewhere else to put the wire.

Oh my. Glad you found him - that's kinda scary...

Perhaps I am further east in the Central time zone than you, but I was mostly talking about the storm clouds coming in...

Honestly, after dry plucking the earlier ones, skinning the last ones really WAS a breeze!!!! Thanks - dinner is yummy!

So what did you order?! :drool
