EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

That didn't take long - it's been quiet here today...

:clap

Celsius or Fahrenheit?

So sorry to hear - yesterday was so bad. I have a rule that I don't keep any birds that struggle too much with the heat, but once it gets over about 97F, they all pant a little. I find that for my chickens, it's a little like it is for me - the first really hot day of summer is misery, but then they adapt throughout the summer and the same temperature in August doesn't cause the same issues. For milder distress, I put ice in their water pan and I'll pick them up and put their feet in the cold water and hold them there - it's amazing how well that works. I'm sure you know this, but a dunk in a bucket of cool (not cold) water helps if they are really in distress. (Fortunately, there's a front coming through and it's going to cool off tomorrow here.)

Argh!!!!!! :hugs (This is the reason I waited until my geriatric greyhound died before I got any chickens...)

:clap:wee:ya:celebrate

Oh my. Glad you found him - that's kinda scary...

Perhaps I am further east in the Central time zone than you, but I was mostly talking about the storm clouds coming in...

Honestly, after dry plucking the earlier ones, skinning the last ones really WAS a breeze!!!! Thanks - dinner is yummy!

Tell me about it - the heat thing. lol

It was 100+ here, with 50% humidty index. We finally got the rain and storms moving in to cool things off.
I keep it at 77 AC year round. I can't handle it colder, and while I can do hotter, the kids bitch if it goes above 80. LOL

I'm wearing long-sleeves and slippers at 75-80. LOL

No! Say it ain't so. 25 isn't near enough. You don't have chickens, so you need to keep more.

I don't have chickens??????? Missy I have 160+ chickens thank you very much! And yes, twenty five is plenty, twenty females and five or six drakes. Nobody but me likes duck eggs anyway and people around here don't usually buy them so 140ish eggs a week is more than plenty.
