EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, I have tons of hawks and no hawk losses, so I think yes - the roosters keeping a lookout helps as well. The shade shelters also act as hawk shelters...

Was thinking of doing the same on the coop without a lid. However none of the birds go into that area now except the broody and her 10 chicks. She's been very diligent on watching them and they have lots of hiding areas.

I'm so tired and sore that I haven't hugged a single chicken today...lol.

You totally need to go hug a chicken! :p

Well, I survived the hauling of cinder blocks (probably because it only got to 94F), and worked my tail off until dark (with some breaks for chicken hugs)...

Yikes. As much as I adjust to summer time temperatures, once it's over body temp outside here, it's a whole different level of difficulty (at least for me). I grew up in hot and humid (New Orleans, Atlanta), and moved to hot and dry. The first few years here, I almost put myself in the hospital a few times because my perceptions of when it was "too hot" all included humidity, and I would stay out too long in the full sun at 104F. I've learned to take scheduled breaks now.

I'm with Dan - I far prefer it this way. We have little to no winter at all here. LOVE gardening in the fall/winter. :thumbsup

Phil, you have gorgeous ducks and chickens. :drool

Gotta agree with that - well said!!!! :clap

:lau:lau:lau

(Well, it's progress, I suppose.)

:hugs:hugs:hugs

(Already looking forward to Red Lobster!!! Mmmmmmmm.... chowder!)

NO HATING ON THE TOADS!!!!! Bert is marvelous! And regardless of the dux thing, Ralph's is brilliant for his work with them. :love

One day I might get some toad eggs from you to hatch in the fall - maybe make a NN version?

I saw one today when I went to BBB - Philips. Looked almost identical to the one in your photo.

Full day today - just had a caprese salad, and roasted a chicken. Broiling potatoes while the chicken rests, will steam some zucchini, and dinner! (And I'm hungry!)

Got some good pics today, will post in a separate post...

- Ant Farm
I hugged 4 roosters and one pullet, twice. I feel MUCH better now!:wee

He has an entire thread on the development of toads in stages.

Established as in breeding flocks that others have so I do not lose the genetics in case of a disaster here.

thinking_1.gif Okaaaay, Toad raising! I get it now...and I managed to get to page 7.
How did I not see this thread before now? :th

Total respect @duluthralphie for what you're accomplishing. I don't understand the unsustainability of what's being done to livestock, and specifically...meat birds. :thumbsup
I on the other hand, will be breeding a wicked chicken...total mad scientist style. sinister-smiley-for-facebook#50505050.png
I figure I've got time on my hands...I should try to do something constructive with it.
