EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Did you see the effort the fisher goes to to get into my cousins kids coop?

disgusting creatures...

I did and trust me that thing was shot sooo many times long before it reached the top vent of the coop. At least in my mind it was.

Heat is a problem I lost one in the last 90+ stretch we had. It was my black toad, the only one I ever had. I wonder if painting it white or clipping feathers would have helped.. Heat is their biggest downfall that I can see.
Will you have eggs in a couple weeks? My meat project are darker and do fine in the heat. But not as big as yours for sure.

sorry for the loss... I lost a ton of birds this week, I recovered 17 bodies. I know there were more I saw ravens fly off with some....

I think my attack was a fisher or coon. They just ate one and killed for fun... I wish I could develop a virus to destroy them.....( I know that is evil, but View attachment 1054218 )......

I wish the Anti-fur wearing people could see what unchecked fur bearers do to our birds.

sorry again for your loss.
Where do you get such wonderful emoji s?

I am thinking it should be flatter and have a little juice running out of its body cavity...:old

Naw if he is what I think he is they are killers of ants and other small insects, in their larva form. I do have an area in front of the tool shed that has a lot of funnel areas in the dirt where insects would be doomed if they fall in.

I am putting eggs in incubator today or tomorrow.

I have not had luck on shipped eggs at all. I would prefer to hatch them and send them as day olds. BUT the weather must be decent where you are for that.

Ok what temps do you like to ship at? Hard to tell what temps will be 3 weeks from now.

Go to this thread...

then I do searches for cool ones, as I have no life. thzxz.jpg

I like it under 85ish... I suppose if I shipped less chicks they might make it in the heat.
So September/October for us. Next week is supposed to be low 90's but the last heat wave was missed by weather channel by 4 degrees.
With a day old chick a lot rides on what the temps will be then unfortunately.

Could be, I know I am planning to ship to Texas in Oct. They don't think the birds would make it until then. Once the bird is acclimated they should be fine.
