EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

On second hand lions, the movie, they picked up Purina lion chow, I got a total kick out of that! Conglomerate is an understatement! They have wise people to have all this going on. It's all in their best interest. ;)
I LOVE THAT MOVIE ! :love

I have some ornery birds today.

I have had a bunch of hens in show pens, for controlled breeding cage training for upcoming shows.

I decided to put 2 Dom hens together in a larger cage for their comfort and company....The one started beating the crap out of the other. They have been side by side in separate cages for a month. Now they want to fight????? Geeez

I pulled them out and put them back in separate cages...

I got 2 PC hens, again side by side for a couple months (they have been inside longer)...This time I had a full fledged rooster type fight hackles up lounging at each other...Back to separate cages.

I am not sure how this is going to work, I really wanted the hens to room together for a while. I can't let them out in the sun, as they will fade in color. Maybe I can put little boxing gloves on them so they don't hurt each other.
If you put boxing gloves on those chickens you HAVE to take pics!

This morning's eggs were IN the new nest boxes, amazingly.

Looks great Banty! I plan to use buckets for my calls. I think that will make clean up a breeze.

...
It is. Dog events almost every day. Some of the agility and other national trials are there.

Name an species of animal and they make a chow for it. Mink, macaw, catfish, etc.
I'll pass their world headquarters on the way to the herb class. The dog trials facility is at their research farm in Grey Summit about 50 miles from me.
https://www.purina.com/purina-farms#/carousel
They have 400 nutrition scientists here as well as research facilities in France, China and Australia.
They have University research partners at Cornell, Texas A&M, UC/Davis, U of PA, U of MO and Colorado State.

Nestle/Land o' Lakes bought out Purina mills in '86. Land O' Lakes mills their feeds.

...

I know Icelandic Sheepdogs have held there Nationals therefore, not sure why I didn't show or herd.

Could you possibly mean 96. I worked for BP (British Petroleum) until 1994, and they had sold off Purina Mills a year or two before I left.

That's strange, not certain why hens would act that way.

Pics don't show for me. :hit
Moving chickens around today. DC from Florida are going into separate coop that broody was in she's now in with main bunch. If she doesn't get back on the moved eggs no problem I almost didn't give them back. There's another broody just waiting to take the eggs.
The Dark Cornish have terrible structure I may or may not work with that. My mutts that I've been working with for 3 years for structure are in twice as good of shape.
Also some chickens going to Camp Fridge.
Well back at it out there. Also roasting more coffee beans this weekend.

Busy day.

The last storm rolled through several hours ago. Silly dog is still sticking to me.

We didn't have any storms. :yesss:

An addiction of love! lol I'm Christine and I'm addicted

It's quite the addiction! If you feel the need, come join us over at incubators anonymous lol

After a few days, I let them out to forage.

It isn't always that nice. Sometimes I let them brood with a flock.
I have one now on 2 week old eggs in a high nest that I'll probably move to one of the apartments today or tomorrow. The Bfoot rooster is in one now.
Since that photo was taken I've installed horizontal nipple waterers. One high for the hen and one low for chicks.

I hope your roo heals up. I noticed one of my new hens limping the other day (LF Cochin from the swap) and checked her out. She had bumblefoot. I pulled the scan and squeezed and a massive pointed corn came out. I feel terrible for them when they have that!

Is anyone familiar to this book? "Genetics of chicken colours "
They want 94 Euro for it.

I haven't seen those before but now I'm very interested!

Good morning everyone! :frow

Anyone have a chance to see any of the Perseids meteor shower?

I totally forgot about that last night! We wanted to see them too :/

Anyone in perfect position for the Eclipse coming up? We might be driving 4 1/2 hours down in to west begonia just to get a better view than well have up here. Still won't be total though.
