EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

:frowHi Connie! That chicken driving & the KFR had me laughing & wanting to barf all in the same second. That's a lot of emotion for 8:30am. :caf :lau

Thanks Shaw! OMG I was SO SICK! Vertigo. I've never had it before & went down hard. I think my brains are still a little scrambled, but its nice to be missed. :hugs
Vertigo is awful stuff. Hope it's your last episode.

Good afternoon!
It's time for myself to head to get feed and bedding for my little flock to.
I've got 3 different hatch dates and two incubators. And I'm drawing a blank. Two eggs. I snuck in before the others are now on "lockdown". Very viable and very active lil ones! Needless to say I'm not removing the turner, which is off. I'm turning by hand. For humidity control. I've set a small dish of distilled water closer to the hatching eggs. And it actually seems to be working even with the air movement, two different levels at different ends of the incubator.
Question is: when the babies hatch, they won't really be able to move around with the turner. Is it okay to take the babies out quickly? I have a warm brooder ready.

Incubator #2 died last night. Went to turn the eggs and they were cold..
Unplugged it. reset it and today it is up to 90F.
LAST NIGHT (LG stat 99.7/ my aux read 80F)
TODAY( LG stat says 99.7/ my aux reads 90F)
So I jacked up the LG t-stat to 111F to raise it to opt level.
What are the chances the egg are living? 2 days hot and 1 day cold..
:pop

Remove the turner at lockdown..
I can only tell you what WE do.. we have two brooders. Both with the heat lamps adjusted up/down until the temp matches the bator. #1 brooder is for the wet chicks we grab out wet, before they knock all my other eggs around. Once they dry, they go into brooder #2.
NOTE: our hatch room is only a slight few degrees temp of the bators.. so when we open the lid there are no drafts.. We snag them fast and close the lid fast.
