EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Well, I have a broody about to hatch chicks. Not that I wanted chicks but her buddy died a couple of months ago and she tried once back in July I think and didn't get any chicks so I was soft-hearted and left her with her three little eggs. I hope for her sake she gets at least a chick.

I would either that or I would separate does just to keep them from having to have too many kids back to back if they're in with the buck you can't give them any time off.
Yeah, that's next years plan after we sell Ben, hard to get him seperate, he's jumped 6' fences before but Armondo (the new buck) has bonded to the wethers so he should be a little easier to keep from them.

 Yup and I don't keep my buck seperate.
We keep our Buck separated to control breeding. We only breed our best Nannies. The strongest genes, size, structure, age etc. As well as colors, waddles, prone to twins/triplets.
Also lets us control what time of the year (season) the kids are dropped. We control the date and population.
In the beginning we just let them do their thing. Now we have to control population/birth defects/still born/nanny risks.
Maintenance on 20+ goat's hoofs is a full time job.

Tell me about it. I six purebred Nubian does I am breeding this fall, and seven meat goats. Then three yearlings in April for fall kids.

Looking good!

Did you get them from Kurt? (you may have told me but I forgot if so).
Rural King.. on in impulse.. hehe. Didn't plan it but they were right in front of me making my heart cloud the common sense in my head. :lau
Just wanted something new to kook at.
We are full time breeders and have an unknown population number. It is countless at the moment. I can give you a number on our feed bill.!
I got a straight run on purpose. I think I have 2 Roos. That is a good ratio.. 7 hens/ 2 Roos. If one gets lazy, his buddy swaps him out.
Also we try to breed types no one around here has. SO THEY SELL. When we breed RI Reds, they sell slow because they are so common etc.
Couldn't help getting the Silver Laced wyandotte's as well. I had Golden and they sell. I want to cross my Golden Roo with a Silver hen to see what I get. Mottled I hope:fl

DH hate's when I go to Rural King solo.. :lau
:oldHe is not there to conscience object my impulsive pullet purchasing problem..
:wee

We pin point a birth date for non freeze possibility months.. Fall is good. Cool weather helps the nannies from getting heat stroke during a possible breach birth.
