Hi Kathy
Used one bite for rats, not sold in California now. Worked well but was concerned about second kill as well. Snap traps now even for squirrels that like eggs.
Not sure about your county for cats but ours makes you sign something saying you won't use their cats as barn cats and they have the right to check in with them. Not happening.
Coyotes or something got some of our cats.
we were told that too- letting the cat go outside was considered animal cruelty. The silly lady told me that the cat would get lost and not know how to get home.
news to me! The cats always seemed to find home before. Maybe cats are stupid now?
I was at the local pound, registering my dog. A cat came in, rubbed up against my daughter and i saw it's ear was clipped. When I commented, they told me that all the feral cats that are brought in, are fixed, and given a health check and vaccinated and all have their ears clipped. Some they re-release, if they were in a low traffic area and were being fed. By clipping their ears, folks know that they have been re-released and don't need to be trapped again. Others are kept at the pound, and those are adopted out as barn cats. These are cats that have never lived inside. Some still like human contact, but most don't. They will not stay inside. They have you contain them in a barn or shed for 2 to 3 weeks, before turning them loose. That should keep them from running off, and they will be more likely to stick around. I will do my best to not get attached.
I know the animal rescue folks I got my kitten from - they had me promise the cat wouldn't go outside. Actually the older cat I got from the pound, I had to agree to keep inside. These cats are already feral, and they don't want to be "pets". I had to fill out an application and promise I wasn't a high traffic area, that I would have safe places for the cats to avoid predators, that I would give them a safe place to sleep. Also that if we see them hurt or injured, we'd trap and get them veterinary care. So, same pound that required my older cat stay inside, adopts these specifically to keep outside.

Dogs can't be kept outside either.
A truckload of broilers were brought into NYC. The cages were not covered to protect them from the wind (more likely in danger from exhaustion!). They were seized, and no one could adopt and eat them.
Notes of positive and negative.. today in Lazy H Farm History.
Good News First..
