Could you use the body as a bait to catch the predator?

I haven't had much luck with using dead stock. I'm trying it again with the last rooster that got killed. I expect about 2-3 days with a newly moved trap before something will venture into it. I'm still waiting. And waiting. A-n-d waiting.

I used live rats for bait last year...feeding and watering them. Then one died one day and the other one had started eating it by the time I checked it. I check twice a day. I had enough of that. *shudders*

I also use a lot of baler twine...lol.

The one black splash EE I was so excited to see that he was a rooster...flew into a wall stud and broke his neck a few weeks ago. It's so frustrating when the faves and picks die unexpectedly.

I agree. It never seems to be the onery ones or ones you don't like.

View attachment 1157927 I just found my SH hen dead by the lumber pile with her back ripped open. Few feathers, meat not eaten off bird. Not sure what got her, I suspect she stayed out last night---condition of carcass is about right for a 12 hr dead bird.

She was probably one of the 6 birds in my entire flock that were lifers. Kids' pet too.

What IS that type of cat.

Not always. I've only lost one and I'm not sure it was one of the cats. The cats don't bother the chickens, even when they're are free ranging baby chicks.

The dog has killed only one; the very first chickens we got. He got reprimanded severely. He's completely trustworthy with them. He's left with them all the time by himself while they've been free ranging. We hurt his feelings so badly he won't even look at them f I hold one up to him. He turns away.

My cats seem to accept the chickens and chicks as part of the landscape, I have never seen them attempt to kill one. I would never trust them with small chicks, but the smaller pullets and hens are never bothered by the cats. The cats will lay right in the middle of the flock and the flock just wanders around them.

had one snap his neck in the ceiling fan in the barn. We plucked the poor little sucker. It was snowing feathers for at least a min long after the metal blade wacked it on super high setting..
