Time to abandon aid and hope natural selection fairs in our favor.
Yes, production should be of high importance when breeding to standard.

For winning, no, but the SOP clearly states that these birds must be bred for production, that doing so would be the only way to save purebreds. Some birds are for egg production, some for meat, some for both and therefore a bit lower at each, but they should all be satisfactory---even bantams. My Sultans from a breeder gave me an egg every day right up until molt.Really? I've always been fed the line they produce less eggs, but produce more over time, a production bird will do great for 2 years then need replacing, while a show quality bird will last maybe 5 years. My experience with SOP birds were low production, with weird shaped eggs. Since there is no method of checking, I don't believe they take it in the equation of winning shows.
Correct.Banti.

I think that often at shows traits directly relating to production or evidence of production is overlooked, sadly, but a good breeder will take egg and meat production into account and keep his birds balanced. Can't make more winners without lots of them eggies.
Correct.
Which is why responsible breeders NEED to take it into account. Judging has changed over the years, I believe. It doesn't matter what the SOP says, the SOP also has size ranges for birds, birds over sized are consistently winning, hence birds will be breed to be over sized. If it isn't a judged and measurable trait it will be lost over time.

If they are placing birds more than 20% over size limit you can complain to the APA about it, because that is a clearly stated DQ.
