EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Morning Whites

Neighbors tell me that older chickens go for $15 at the auction. He was shocked. So I started asking $15 from the guys at work. They say they'll buy them I just have to work out the days for them to be here.

Hope your doing ok from the fall.
I've had coworkers tell me they want to buy one of my chickens to eat. I told them I'd have to charge them way more than it would be worth for eating. They said they didn't care how much I charged. I couldn't do it when they can buy organic, Amish free range chickens at Whole Foods neatly packaged for less than I can grow them for.

Glad things with the hatch are going well overall and you have a new favorite thing!

Sorry Liz. I've worked my share of Saturday nights going into Sunday morning. At least they said we could have comp days.

I've worked more 12 hour shifts on weekends and holidays in my life than I care to remember. My last position at my long term employer was a lonely job that had to be manned 24/7 in a control center for all the plant processes. When there were 4 of us manning the job and no one took a day off, it required each of us to work three 5 day weeks and one 6 day week a month but each week the shift changed and the days off changed. When one guy got fired, 3 of us had to man it around the clock without a day off for 6 months till they found a suitable replacement.
When Thanksgiving rolled around, my son was on a trip with friends to ND and my wife and daughter were going to her mom's which I couldn't do cause I had to work. I wasn't going to see any family anyway so I volunteered to work 36 hours straight so my 2 coworkers could have the day off. I just asked them to each give me a day in return at my convenience. I used those days along with another that was owed to me to fly to Mexico.
I rented a house on a hill in Sayulita overlooking the ocean and taking surfing lessons.

They wont' come to me for treats! They just hide and shake.

I have to put them away in the dog crate each night.

Edited to add : I need to buy 2-3 more large dog crates and move the other ducks out. It's been working well for housing to keep them safe... but the chickens raid the hay each morning!
Do you take the crates indoors at night?

went next door to my running mates house last night, he's stripping 2 to 3 layers of paint off of a cedar chest (who in the hodini paints over cedar), tangled with uncle Miller till about midnight talking about politics Good Friday night though,

No. It's like 70 degrees at night. There's no need.

I forgot you have dogs for protection. If I have carrier birds I bring them in for predator protection, not for cold.
Yeah she sleeps outside with the birds. I have 14 ducks, there's no way I'd have 14 full size birds in my house! LOL My husband WOULD kill me. We don't have a garage, so my daughters room is being used as the brooder room ATM - I'm eager to get the birds out of there and see if I can get her sleeping in her own room, again now that she has a dog to sleep with.
