Well, I just saw a thread on dust baths for winter. It reminded me I need to fill several cat litter buckets with dry dirt to put inside where I will have dry unfrozen dirt for my winter dust baths (I have a 55 gallon plastic barrel that lays on its side with a hole in the side for the big coop, and a covered cat box for the small coop.

My turkeys looked like dust devils in the pasture yesterday before the long awaited rain.. lol

They were asking for ideas so I shared mine, and remembered that I have not gone out to fill mine before everything is muddy or frozen.
The wood ash I can add later as long as I have dirt.

You should still be able to fill a paint bucket or litter bucket or two before it is all frozen. A container is easy to get later.
As long as it has a sealing lid you can keep it somewhere it won't freeze like the garage and then in the utility room right before it goes out.

Projected Hatch Date.. Thanksgiving Day.

All mottled Java/3 Barred rock/Odd Ball X's from range.
I have a deposit put down on the entire yield by a close by neighbor. I didn't count the amount but I am holding onto a 20 spot until after Turkey Day.

I said the Hallow Hatch was the last until spring until my neighbor friend asked for a bunch of newbies..

Needless to I cleaned the sink out, pans and all. It was my turn because that's our deal.. if one cooks, the other cleans. He cooked last night.. I welched out on the pact.
