EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Bennie also talked about the importance of getting it right smell. I wish I was up to trying it.
With having such a small flock at this time i have only about 25lbs so.. it will be good practice.
What smell I’m wondering do they like?
I guess just nothing my chickens would typically turn their nose up to.

That is nice. You should get a picture of some with just the leaves that match them so well. It would make a great entry for a photo or calendar contest.
Good morning. Yes, it was a long day, but doing chores going to bed doing chores and starting exactly ten hours later (I had to actually wait a minute to clock in) makes today and yesterday like one big long day. I didn't even get the doelings teased. I hope I didn't miss one of them.
What is on your schedule for today?
Reason I got them is they blend in well and were supposed to be good free range. Which they are but they also fly well. Here to date I haven't had enough to let loose to see if they stuck around.
Here's a picture of the first one I put in with leaves. Well camouflaged.
Plans for the day, work.

It's really a sourdough kind of smell. If you don't do that either, just think yeast.
Put some feed into a bucket.
Fill the bucket with water enough to cover the feed.
Add some Braggs (or Heinz if it's with the mother). There is no measurement. If it's a 5 gallon bucket (oh! This is a yeast product! Only half fill bucket!!) you want about a quarter cup.
Stir twice a day. Add water as necessary to get it all wet.
There is a dry FF that doesn't need straining, and wetter that you want to strain at least some. It bubbles, so I like to watch it, and laugh like a child.
I suggest wetter until it's fermented the first time. It takes several days to ferment (you can feed from day one though). The bubbles let you know it's done.
No more acv is needed. You can stir once a day, or every other day once the fermentation has happened.
