I stopped posting to that thread pretty much once I made friends here. That was my way of lurking in the shadows while still contributing to the site. Instead of consolidating all my yacking and jibbish on one thread, I am now spreading in evenly across the site..
Vintage fishing pole, clip piece of wire clothes hanger bent with pair of pliers, duct tape. the stick is so long you don't even have to sneak up on them and when you snatch them place the pole on the ground and the weight of it anchors them. It would work great for your application because you probably have a long distance to reach them being under a structure.
I think I'll borrow that idea. Don't need to catch any atm, but I eventually will.

No problem there. Just glad I didn't break a wrist or arm; a bit more brittle than 30 years ago.

Bummer. I imagine you searched for piles of feathers. All my birds are black so a peek out the back window will show the aftermath of disaster.
Be careful what you wish for. I called a friend in Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria was headed there. He said he likes hurricanes to hit the island because the power outages make it very quiet and he gets his best sleep in the aftermath. 4 months later, he still has no power.
