Banty just means crazies by her in Canada.... It's cold early there.... Like that where I live too.
But if a lived a few hours south of here it would be fine this time of year. It could snow here any day..... Doubtful but it does.

I hatched birds at the end of August once. It went okay until it was -40 with a stiff wind. Then one bird lost her feet and the other would have died if I hadn't had her indoors. I felt bad for her.. the remaining toe stubs never did work as well as normal feet.

You must live far up north if it was 40 degrees in the end of August, we are lucky if it even gets to 80 during this time of year down where we live.

A broody can hatch anytime of year, and the babies will be fine.
Some of us incubate whenever the mood strikes us (like when there’s a hatch along to join). It is possible to acclimate the babies outside before the winter is over.

What if it's over a 105 degrees out and a hen is sitting on eggs, won't they likely get too overheated?

No, they hatched at the end of August, but it didn't get down to -40 until they were a few months old and I thought they were okay without heat.

Now, positive 40, that happens quite a bit in August. Fahrenheit, not Celsius.

Hens were hatching without us humans overthinking for a long time. Besides, it’s cooler in the shade.

I've only been using broody hens this year.

Depends on the climate. Non-crazies around here are usually done setting eggs by July, or they'll have lots of fun keeping birds inside the house or running heat.

Never inside again, unless Moose wants chicks. Lol

Wow, your count s lower than mine. I've been pretty good at catching broody hens and breaking them.
