EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

On a less serious note, I'm only on day 4 with these eggs and I've already had to throw out 4. Two blood ringed early (one of which was stuck to the carton), one had the air cell on the side of the egg, and one was scrambled AND stuck to the carton. These aren't shipped eggs and the folks I bought them from live in spitting distance of the feed store.:barnie

I feel with you, I bought 36 eggs from 3 nearby breeders; all dead the first days. We really started to doubt the hatchingmachine...
The ones shipped all the way from east-germany.. have a normal rate! 10 tot 20 days old when incubated, quite late for incubating for some, 5 where cracked due to shipping, 4 out of 15 are healthy!. (fingers crossed they stay that way...but they are already 10 days older and alive then the previuos eggs...)
I already knew the Dutch Indian runner market is terrible, allmost all family from each other...this only made my opinion stronger :p

Duckling and I were sitting by the fire yesterday morning, and the drake was mounting the hen. I keep telling her he’s making babies, but she keeps forgetting.
“Is he trying to nail her bill to the ground?”
“Yes, Honey.”
“ well, he’s never going to get her nailed to the ground, it’s too soft!
“Jojo, you can’t nail her to the ground, so stop trying!”

Meanwhile, I accidentally broke a quail egg last night. Duckling eagerly waited for me to check it, and was ecstatic when I said it was fertile. I see an incubator in the near future.
