Not true; not in the least. There's no way I'm 70+, I was 23 just last month!

@chicken hawk 33 , you need to figure out a way to cover and predator proof your pen or live with losing your birds. Please STOP shooting owls and falcons! I free range mine, and I lose a few to falcons and hawks, but there is no way I would shoot one, and if I ever saw someone shooting at one, I would call the police and or department of fish and game. Do what you want to with racoons, skunks, opossums, etc, but leave the birds of prey alone.

(above picture is not my hen, but this is what she looked like) My hen looked like this yesterday, so I checked for an egg, and sure enough, she had an egg, so I waited several hours and she passed it on her own, but looked even worse after, so I checked again and this time she had a shell-less egg. By 9 PM she was so bad that she couldn't walk, and could barely stand, so I brought her in and discovered she was trying to prolapse and i could see just a little bit of the egg. Gave fluids and calcium, but she was getting worse by the minute, so I decided to get the egg out. By the time I was done she could no longer stand or even hold her head up, and she was open mouth breathing. Poop this morning is yellow w/little bits of green and urates, so, going to treat with Baytril, fluids, and Meloxicam and hope she pulls through. :fl The peas haven't been laying for two months, so she hasn't been getting any lay pellets, though she does have access to oyster shell. -Kathy
How is your hen? I would not even have known what to do. Luckily for her she lives with you. :)
