They may be terms but barn, feral, outdoor, etc. shouldn't be terms that precede the word cat.
In addition to the devastating impact on wildlife @Akrnaf2 noted, any veterinarian will tell you to keep your cats in the house. Nothing good can happen to the cat when they are allowed to roam outside.
We have cats, my son has cats, his girlfriend has cats. None of them have ever been outside. They don't get worms, disease or dead from cars and run ins with wildlife or domestic animals.

The neighbors had over forty cats, and we were headed to the second house on the motorcycle. It was late, the cat was black... my husband has the insane ability to safely stop the bike on a dime. That cat died a few weeks later in the same area of the highway.

The cats are always getting into the garage while it’s open. One was missing for a week until one day I was walking by, and it jumped through a window.

I hate irresponsible pet owners.

40 outdoor cats on a single property means virtually no songbirds or any birds successfully reproducing in the area, let alone mammals like rabbits, chipmunks or amphibians surviving.
And with 40 cats running around outside, there's a good chance they either have high vet bills but probably not since they aren't really caring for them properly. They are also getting into trouble with raccoons, coyotes and other animals. I just wonder how many of those 40 they lose in the course of a year.
People acquire a bunch of cats and figure they can let them fend for themselves. They are mistaken. These are all invasive species that are a bane to the local wildlife.

I am sure that the owners are infected with Toxoplasma gondii in the central nerve system that have changed their behaviour and made them fanatic cat lovers!
