I've dissected frogs and owl pellets. Didn't bother me. Bug could go either way. I don't know with him sometimes.

Keeping in mind that I was raised prim and proper, it’s amazing I can now grow food, and kill and eat my birds.

Dissecting cats was one of my top 5 school moments. I was already a crazy old cat lady by the tender age of 4, so I was ambivalent at the beginning. But that didn't last long. My cat had a surprise pregnancy, with 4 perfectly formed little kittens only an inch long. And then in college we did mink. I love A & P. Sometimes I wish I would have done something with it--archaeology or forensic anthropology or something.

In other news, I had 16 out of 18 chicks hatch, with 8 malpositions, 6 assists, 4 curled toes, and 1 death this morning. So 15 out of 18. That's my best hatch rate, but also my highest problem rate.

I said I would be done starting hatches, but my dad brought me eggs from the chickens he lost to a fox, so....

I just paid $1 to have Duckling clean up the spilled dog food. Worth it! I hate cleaning up the dog food.

I don't know what to do about calibration. I've tested about 10 different thermometers. I've tested them against freezing water, boiling water, and my body temp with both a meat therm and a medical basal body temp therm. I mark how much they are off and then when I put them in the incubator, none of them match what they should.

But I think I've got it right this time. The next two hatches will tell!

I think I may have just found eggs. Finally. It'll be worth it if I can get some porcelain d'uccle eggs for $5 a dozen.

Yesterday was a crazy day in general, but shopping was quite an experience. Raz, I sincerely hope you’re not bringing Bug into public unnecessarily. If you do, ignore this post.
Different places have different rules for children. Some variate the age a child must wear a mask from two to nine. Some places forbid children all together. My WM doesn’t let pick up orders contain toilet paper. So, into WM I ventured (freaking out for various reasons). Before I went, my BIL asked if I was taking Duckling. I am of the “all children left behind!” group. There wasn’t a child to be seen in the store.
They had the gallon Easter buckets on sale for nine cents. I couldn’t come up with a good use for them though. Now I think I could have used them for a sidewalk chalk container, and planter.
I went for my TSC pick up, and my BIL stood inches away from the guy loading, not wearing the state required mask. I admonished him (again! I kept telling him to stay in the car!), and he went off about no one should have to wear a mask. If you knew my BIL, you’d know why my mask was on in the vehicle.
Upon getting home, I was informed Duckling was staying (messing up my birthday steak and margaritas, but you know I was okay with that), and then I picked up bag after bag of one item. Half gallon of detergent, not in a bag. Three gallons of milk each bagged. A thermometer in its own bag. A bag of chocolate chips in it’s own bag... I could have gotten away with twelve fewer bags.
And that is the summary of my first trip out since February. It relates to BYC/hatching because I bought two more thermometers for the incubator.
