EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'm not sure but the silkies are good setters. At least mine were.
thats what i am hoping she does
mucho gracias senor
My dad's best broody for his RIR's would set and hatch consistently, 18, she was a little japanese black bantam.... crazy, spread herself as far out as she could. She even hatched and brooded some wild turkey eggs once, birds were twice her size following her around when they were poults.
LOL, i would love to see that!!
Was looking through the butterfly book again before bed - I was wrong. Though the Monarchs are indeed on their way through, these aren't Monarchs (for a number of subtle reasons) - they're Queens/Tropic Queens. Still pretty, though. (My CDO compelled me to get up out of bed, wake up the computer, and correct my error. :lau ) Pretty. Tiger swallowtail, I think. We have those too sometimes. (I want to get better at this - I sense a new hobby coming on - Nooooooooooooo........:th ) OK, really going to bed now. Good night!:frow - Ant Farm
:hugs no worries
immediately!
but thats a turkey?
It's really getting old. Usually starts about 11:30 and continues through the night.
could be light or he could be trying to tell you that there is something out there
I am okay. I can't remember the last time I had that much sleep. :hide Duckling is not up yet. Poor thing was so tired, she cried for twenty minutes before falling asleep. I was holding her too. Here's to a great day for all! (Clinking mugs)
:hugs poor girl
It is a rooster

Perhaps he needs a hobby. I vote for knitting!

Entomology would be my choice for all my chickens
Insect collecting refers to the collection of insects and other arthropods for scientific study or as a hobby. Because most insects are small and the majority cannot be identified without the examination of minute morphological characters, entomologists often make and maintain insect collections. Very large collections are conserved in natural history museums or universities where they are maintained and studied by specialists. Many college courses require students to form small collections. There are also amateur entomologists and collectors who keep collections.

could be worse. I just asked my oldest to start a load in the washer for me... and he replies "there's already one in the dryer".... and i said "you need to put a dirty load, in the washer." to which he replied "I already moved it to the dryer." to which I had to reply, so the washer is empty? "Yes" "then put dirty laundry in the washer, and start a new load." and he said "but I already started the dryer."

sounds to me like you are raising a man , enjoy the challenge

Always better to encourage your underlings to pursue hobbies where they are "gifted"

I was at work--The boss does not allow animals in the building.

It would have been fun stuffing him into my honda civic and driving him to my house in Woodland. Imagine the stares on Hyw. 113 when they saw a Tom buckled into the passenger seat!
I had a you might be a red neck if moment a while back when I took a goat in the front of my truck to the vet recently. I laughed myself into cramps watching people's reactions and double takes. :lau

unfortunately, yes. I am assuming that he is young And that's pretty normal for a young rooster, they like to hear themselves. Any kind of light, maybe a security light or porch light that shines into their pen at night? That can make them Crow also.

He is 20 weeks old. I never heard him, until his hatch mate was killed a few weeks ago, maybe he is mourning.

I do have a big light installed by the power company out there, but it has never been an issue before, and I'm not getting rid of that, it would be pitch black outside without that light.

He would not lived at my place even 5 minutes! I CAN'T STSND THAT! That way I don't have them

It's driving me a little crazy! He gets the goose going too, and then it's like a complete circus.

Perhaps he needs a hobby. I vote for knitting!

You wanna come teach him?

Poor Duckling.... she probably needs more chocolate.

Had a silkie rooster doing that, all night every night...
Got the roosters in the other coops going.
Emphasis on had, other roosters and we sleep just fine now.

I am trying to figure out if I could get them back in their coop at night instead of roosting on top of it, if that would help, for him to be "inside" the coop as opposed to being perched on the top in the moonlight.

could be light or he could be trying to tell you that there is something out there

He's trying to tell me he wants to go live somewhere else.
