EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I blame you! You asked about a nn/silkie/JG mix. Had I answered you earlier in the day, I would have said no way! Now that I might actually get a naked neck or two, I guess I'm going to have to just deal with it, :lau I think it is like asking God for patience. He gives you more trials to endure!

Lol! Like I said, never wanted them, now that I have them, they are the coolest most awesomest chickens I have. So cute as chicks, really hope they do good in our cold weather, find it hard to believe they do, but hear they do.

Wow can't believe the other thread got so busy (Ok for realz shouldn't be that suprised on BYC!!!). I candled my 14 eggs the past few days- my 2 "control"/mixed from my flock eggs have veining. Out of the 12 that were shipped to me (6 Salmon Fav's, 6 BCM) I can see veining in some of the BCM but others are too dark, and 4/6 SF's. One of the SF's is definitely dead- had a massively detached air cell and I think is basically scrambled on the inside. One of the others is questionable. I left both of them in because they were quite dear to get and I'd rather just leave them as long as they are not stinking. Also, one of the SFs that had a small crack that I sealed with clear nail polish definitely has a happy embryo moving around.

14ish more days to go. Some of them have saddle air cells. I'm thinking about stopping turning a bit early. I think all of the other air cells have re-attached- I was suspicious about a few that seemed to move a bunch when they arrived but have now stabilized (abnormally shaped but at least they are not moving).

This is the first time I've incubated eggs that were light enough to really see the little buggers!! It was crazy to see the embryo move in response to my flashlight!

I told you I'm swimming in eggs. Take them!

10 mature hens here and 60 birds total of various ages and sexes. I'm getting 2 eggs a day.

I have 12 olive eggs due to hatch in 10 hours. I only have one olive egger (the only bird I have besides the penedesencas) so I had to collect eggs from her for 2 weeks or more. When I candled yesterday, they had all developed.
I don't do lockdown per se, even in the LG. I'm fairly confident in the hatch dates so I really don't worry till day of hatch. I filled all the troughs yesterday.
