EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Adorable.

Are both hatchlings silkies?
Mixed breeds, Silkie mamas (since Silkie had 4 of her own eggs then took 2 of her sister's!) but the possible dads are Ancona, Appenzellar Spitzhauben and Sicilian Buttercup. They were all "oops" surprise roosters in our spring chick order. I would tend to say the little brown baby has the Buttercup as her/his dad! Our Silkies are all blues although they are all quite dark gray to black

Ahhh! I'm trying to keep my silkies separated from the other roosters.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestion. I didn't realize this was more of a fun chat thread, just posted my question after reading all the introductory articles on the first page :-). Float test- appropriate level of floating but not much movement, what we did see could have just been unsettled room, dogs and kids walking about. Maybe I'll try again tonight when things are quieter. I'm willing to give it more time just with the staggered hatch I've no idea if this chick is very overdue or just a day. If we ever let a broody sit again I will never, ever forget to mark the eggs right away so we'll know if she adds more! We're thrilled with the two chicks she's hatched and would love a third but these two are pretty wonderful.
Very nice. I made the same mistake on first broody and have since marked the eggs they get. The last broody never left the nest that I saw but I put her in a coop by herself.

I was looking at my son's drawing of a swan... and I swear it's a goose instead of a swan.

did you know that a lot of kids these days going to college, can't read or write coherently???

Engineers can't either.

I asked for money for an impact driver for Christmas and my birthday three years ago. Fabulous tool for building forget the hammer.
i bought my dad an impact gun for Christmas a few years ago, i dont think he's used it, but if it were mine you can bet it would have some hours on it

The gusts are blowing. The thunder and lightning are kicking.. The hubby is stuck on the freeway and he has to stand out in that mess all day. Poor guy.

Hi Liz I do have someone coming to cut the tree at the barn. It's an oak thats prone to falling. The tree at the house is an Aleppo pine. Guys tell me they are very strong tree and won't cause a problem. I've had the sail thinned so it's safer. So they say.
so glad to hear that

Here's a clip of the news for the fire in Tahoe area. Looks like they have made some headway as the evacuation orders have been lifted.

Highway 89 is closed from Fallen Leaf Road to north of the Vikingsholm near Emerald Bay. The California Highway Patrol estimates the road closure could remain in effect for 24 to 48 hours, as of 10 a.m. Friday.

A voluntary evacuation order had been issued for about 500 homes near Emerald Bay, but that has since been lifted.

An evacuation center has been set up at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center at 1180 Rufus Allen Boulevard.

Winds in the area are remaining strong, with gusts reaching about 50 mph. However, winds are expected to pick up throughout the day, according to the KCRA Weather Team.

Some light rain has already begun to fall around the fire area, but the bulk of the heavy showers are expected to kick in by about 10 a.m. and last through 7 p.m.

I absolutely did know that sad fact of our education system. It isn't an excuse.
It doesn't happen in my world. Most children learn up to the level of expectation.
I've worked with teens from around the world - all continents. They not only had perfect language skills in their native language, but also fluency in at least one additional language by high school age. What does that say about us? Is it the education system? (most likely), The children - perhaps nutrition? Or our expectations? It is probably different in each case.
Granted, these exchange students were probably more motivated to learn than many students here, but I've yet to meet a kid from Korea, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Spain, you name the origin, that didn't have English language skills equal to or far superior to what we find here.
I knew Kazakh kids that wouldn't speak Russian or Kazakh (both fluent) to each other just to practice English when they were together. Kids there use 3 different alphabets.
I'm not sure we sufficiently impart the importance of good communication skills to get our message across to our audience or reader.

This downward spiral reminds me of the movie Idiocracy.

@ChickenCanoe . Let's see, we will be in the Mark Twain National Forest, Natural bridge, and Cassville area.
I got my drill three years ago, and I have used it a ton. It is my favorite, and the best tool ever.
I know the area. That is beautiful country and the weather should be perfect.

What brand is the drill?
