Yeah, I get that one stuck sometimes.(chorus)
You picked a fine time
to leave me Lucille
with four hungry children
and a crop in the field
I had some bad times
lived through some sad times
but this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time
to leave me Lucille
They'll probably become fast friends.2/4 ducks died. one yellow/one black.
2 lived and are doing okay with our other 2 ducks so far.
the 4 chicks that were sent, lived. I believe they are full-sized cochins, to add to my flock. I love the bantam cochins, but I thought I'd try a couple fullsized ones out to see if I like them as much as the smaller ones.
If the roosters are as nice as biter, maybe I can get some RIR/cochin crosses if I had a male able to actually mate with my RIR. My bantam cochin can't reach and she's not patient enough to squat far enough down. believe it or not. LOL
The chick I was worried about, was really weak, but I got vitamins into it, and got it eating drinking and warmed up in the brooder. It ended up doing better and perking up... I put the 4 baby chicks in with my solo hatching silkie. He seems very confused by them, but he's still not sure he likes me, either. LOL
Baby pee is supposed to be good for acne.it's a clean diaper. lol
She likes to play with clean diapers. the freak!
X2I should really stop putzin around and do my coops, lord knows it takes me four times longer now...
This thread was hard enough to follow before the posting competitions.I don't count anymore?![]()

Slow down hot rod. Take a deep breath.I'm so excited
Overheard DH talking to his buddy about backpacking in Arkansas again, sometime after Christmas. No dates set, but all the guys are in.
I wasn't invited, or informed. So tomorrow I'm starting my breed pens.![]()
without being told to>???Depends on who asks them. Lol but I was surprised that my oldest emptied the dishwasher and vacuumed for me this morning when I was at the store.
looks like the little black duck that's acting sickly, is probably going to dieI got vitamins into him and got him eating/drinking, but he's not doing very good.
The chick I was worried about, perked up.
I guess it's a good thing I ordered more ducks from metzer farms.
I'm not happy about the post office making a over night box take 3 days, and causing some of my birds to die![]()
love the karate chicken LOLMy Brownie hen is doing an amazing job at mothering 7 chicks!! Omgosh is she a riot if any other chicken comes near those babies!!! They even think about it and she Kung fu karate chops their face! Lol She doesn't hurt them but she definitely makes her point.
Glory
so sorryThank you. He just died in front of my husband, so my husband removed him and disposed of him![]()
need to find a way to bottle it and sell it!!Where does all the energy come from??? I need just a tiny portion of these kids energy!
awwwwww so cute!Banti, Duckling tried to nap with her spider. She is now in bed, and that was the toy she laid next to her head on her pillow.
how old are they? These girls have been having a dance party for over an hour.
yikes, thats a bummerGetting mosquito bites on your inner thighs make for itchy sitting.
no, dont do thatmorning MC - now that I finally got all the cats back out of my room, the toddler back asleep and it quiet, maybe I can get work done. Another client just contact me and wants another project started. I need to stop playing on BYC and work![]()
not i, but i dont have anyThis morning, we will discuss goose, duckand turkey
eggs
. Who eats them?![]()
go to a farm where they do it, and watch them, help them,I don't plan on eating my turkey eggs. I plan on either putting them into the incubator, or selling them on ebay.... They go for a lot especially when you get close to the off season!
But, honestly, I love turkey meat. My husbands going to kill me, but he's going to end up butchering me a lot of turkeys. lol I like turkey meat more than chicken.
Also - he thinks it's dumb to cull and butcher bantam sized chickens.... but if they need to go why waste them? lol
I haven't figured out the best way to handle it when my chickens stop laying eggs. I don't need 500 million chickens, and if they aren't laying eggs, and aren't special pets... what else do you do with them besides eat them?
I guess I may have to learn how to butcher myself. I just don't know if I have the stomach for it.I squick out if I have to kill a bug.
Also - I have every intention of eating duck and geese eggs.
i am sure you couldI get horrific nightmares when I have to kill an animal. I just don't know if I have the mental ability to work through that. with my autism, it would replay, like a live video over and over in my head.
When I ran over a bunny, I had nightmares for weeks.
It's not so much the stomach for it, as the ability to let it go and get the job done with out lasting mental trauma. I can eat something I KNOW was butchered by someone else. I don't even mind when someone else kills an animal, there's just something for me, about the act of it, doing it on purpose, that my brain doesn't handle well. I'm still trying to figure out if I will be capable of doing it, with out getting nightmares.
Ok as i was about to open one egg i think it moved so i put it back! The other didn't so i opened it up and it was fully formed just drowned... i think... and unabsorbed yolk
very handsome dog and i am sure that he didnt mind at all getting hugs from hermakes sense. my rottweiler bonded immediately with my oldest son, and never once bit him... but he did grab the arm of a child who rushed up to him and grabbed him with out warning. He never bit hard, just got this look on his face like "pleeeeeeeeeeease don't hurt meeeeeee"
He died from cancer at 8 1/2, but he was one of the best dogs I ever had the pleasure of owning.
I got him around 18 months old, and he was a solid 110-120lbs. him and I got into a couple of physical tussles when I first brought him home, and a couple of accidents in the house. The lady always had him in a too small crate (where he couldn't lay down, it was too small.) I got him fully potty trained in a week, and we worked out who was in charge... then we worked on his other issues.
It's why I took him everywhere with me, and got permission from my college to take him to class with me. As long as he wasn't disruptive, no one seemed to mind. lol

this was him a few months before he died.
He woke up one morning and couldn't walk on his front shoulder/paw/leg.
rushed him to the vet, and they told me upon examination it was cancer, and I could shell out hundreds in testing and therapies to try to treat it, but by the time it effected joint/bone/walking like that, it was too far advanced to treat.
he was in so much pain, I had to put him down. alone, with no warning.
The only thing I didn't like about it, is I let my daughter hug him goodbye, and the vet tech was nasty about "almost" letting the baby hurt him when she hugged him. (she didn't hurt him, but they were scared she was going too.)
All I could think is.. they are about to put him to sleep, and they are worried about my daughter hugging him goodbye? ***.
nope, i just drink my coffeeDoes anyone else blow bubbles in their coffee?![]()
Great news about the fire!!Morning everyone.![]()
About an inch of rain from storm
At last check the fire in Tahoe was 80% contained with 0 structures lost.
agree, but i also think maybe a little further it looks like my eggs a couple days ago, good luck!!Hello everyone,
I have a quick question for you. I am trying to figure out approx what day/age this embryo i.
It is the only egg in my incubator,so unfortunately I don't have any others to compare it to.
After looking through the egg candling pic through progression it seems to me it may be around 12 days-13days.
Does anyone agree or disagree?
Before you ask, no I am a dufus, and have no idea when I put it in. I will say that it is from my favorite hen we lost awhile back, and then I realized I had some of her eggs in my fridge for about 2-3 weeks. So if it hatches we will name it Fridge.
Thanks
you give him a hugI hugged my ducks today. I realize they dislike being picked up, so I tried to stroke their backs and heads, and they tolerated that better.
I'm pretty sure my turkeys would like hugged. I just am trying to picture what's going to happen when a full sized turkey tom wants a hug.
flick themAll the chicks, poults and ducklings, seem attached to both my shiney rings, and my freckles. I haven't had an earlobe pecked at, or nibbled on, but my turkey's routinely try to swallow my fingers when getting mealworms from me. I haven't figured out how to teach them "be gentle" like you do a dog.
I won't lose a finger when they grow up, will i? Please reassure me that I'll keep my digits.
you had a numberI don't count anymore?![]()
so sorryI just had to bury my Olive Egger roo (Pokey aka Roadrunner).![]()
my guess is hawkSomething tried to carry him off... I only found two punctures on his chest.I didn't see anything and I was outside. Just heard a scuffle and by the time I got to him he was dead.![]()
My daughter and her friend wrote a funeral ceremony for him. It was 30 minutes long. Complete with songs, poems and food at the end.
not cute, hystericalI had to hide my face to keep from laughing.
Especially as they sang Amazing Grace followed by the Star Spangled Banner. Lol
great hatch! i wish i had some OEs,I wish I could send you one of these.
The olive eggers right out of the incubator.
In their temporary brooder.
11 of these 12 eggs hatched easily and I'm about to float test the last one.
Slow down hot rod. Take a deep breath.
What day did you set them?
