Good luck to all you western Washingtonians. I hope we all weather the storm safely. Keep your bators warm and have a back up plan. Remember last year when we were all scrambling to do so!!!!

Hello Beautiful!!  sweet!!  Thank you dear!!

You know we really need candle images, I should send out a request shouldnt I??    I wish I had help or I would take tons of candles its too hard for me and my hand is just an egg dropper in disguise at this point :hit

I could start taking pictures of mine if you like? Those pink EE eggs were so easy to see through too, I had thought of taking pictures and video because of it, can see feet the umbilical everything...very cool. They are starting to darken when I looked after seeing the post questioning what day it was on, so my phone wasn't picking up what my eyes were seeing :(

I just put in Tolbunt Polish though, and they are white, so should be easy to see on candle for day 3, 5, 7 then 10... I'll just pick one guinea pig for that though if so... there are lots online though...

I don't mind with my next batch doing 1 egg per day, that way I don't mess with them too much and rotating which egg I take a picture of... I worry that over-handling will kill them lol

I've wanted to do one of those underground pod houses to live in.

I read an article in Mother Earth News years ago about a man who wanted to build an underground house, which would normally be built into the side of a hill, everything but the south side under several feet of dirt, for insulation. Problem was, he lived in Illinois; not exactly the hilliest part of the country, so he made his own hill. He'd decided that a round or oval house was the most energy-efficient, so he poured concrete walls all around, except for the southern exposure, where the wall was glass. He formed trenches in the poured concrete floor to accommodate the plumbing & electric lines, which he then covered with plywood, flush with the floor, and rolled carpet over the whole thing. Whenever he needed repairs, he rolled the carpet back, lifted a few planks, and everything was right there. The southern wall was all glass, for maximum light transmission & winter heat. Outside, the whole affair was covered with several feet of dirt....5' or so underground the temperature is a constant 50+ degrees...no need for a/c. For winter, he had a small woodstove, vented through the roof. He'd also designed a ventilation system, but I don't remember the details.

He was interviewed after spending his first year there. With very little firewood usage, he was able to warm the house comfortably, thanks to the natural insulation on the exterior, plus the heat generated through the southern glass wall. He got hit with an Illinois blizzard, and couldn't get the door open to access his wood supply. The stove went out eventually, for lack of firewood, but the inside never went below the mid-50' until he was able to dig out (don't remember how he accomplished that). He said his only heating cost was $3 and change, for gas & oil to run his chainsaw. The only maintenance was having to mow the roof once in a while in the warmer months.

This dud have built just that in Hrzelia see shore not to far of my house
See how beautiful

Yes. When neighbors were roofing their home. Rooster completely disappeared he was a very large Orpington. Too friendly followed me like a dog. Had him out for the day while I was there. When I came back around the barn after about an hour he was completely gone. Few feathers were left. So either a human took it or a very large animal took it with out a fight. I looked for days. Nothing. Usually I'll find parts laying around.

I've had birds disappear with no feather remains and no humans were suspect.
And they are slick as snot.
Yes. Especially metal roofs with snow and ice. I was the lead installer on the world's largest solar hot air system back in '09. The moron I worked for told the builders what slope to put on the roof for the panels. Information that was wrong and I had to correct with stands for the panels. (another nightmare story altogether)
Then he scheduled work to start at the end of January. When I asked why, he said that we always had a February thaw.

You are relying on a weather pattern that happens occasionally? We couldn't get on the roof for 2 months.
