EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Kajira my svart honas hatch like that more often than not. I don't remember seeing the black gene info folks have mentioned, but if lockdown humidity gets much above 60% they do that. I've hatched them fluffier with humidity lower. Or maybe it was the other way around...

my hona breeder told me to hatch them with lockdown humidity around 55%. Anyway, that's my two cents.
All the others were super fluffy and perfect, except the black one. :hmm

When I do a mixed hatch the honas do the same. So maybe it is something with the black?

These were all silkie eggs. So, it could be.

The only other weird thing is the partridge didn't have the right colored feet, or # of toes. :(

Gonna see if I can rehome them. I know someone who's taking a few silkies off my hands once I hatch a bunch. They don't want to show them or anything or breed them, so I can give them some pet quality ones and not feel bad about it.

that's impressive ;o you must have strong legs.

I used to. I was standing on his chest when he let go of the chicken and started biting my foot. I stomped his head with my other boot but the ground was so soft after 4" of rain, it took longer than it should have.
I still wasn't convinced he was dead so I ran a knife into his neck and up into the skull.
