Do any of you have any studying/memorization tips to help a 4th grader memorize things likes dates/vocabulary?
Sometimes it helps to make up silly stories or put them to a familiar tune so you use both sides of your brain. We did this all the time in geography to work our way from place to place(ex. States on the map). For unrelated items to this day I use a number system with visuals (it worked great for anything you can visualize from anatomy parts, to minerals, to my shopping list so i don't have to worry if I forgot it.
It works like this. One is the sun, two is a shoe, three is a tree, four is a door, five is a hive, six is sticks, seven is heaven, eight is a gate, nine is a vine, ten is a hen,....
Now say I am going shopping and need shampoo, soup, carrots, milk, and toilet paper (same thing for say the parts of the digestive tract or minerals in a compound)
It is important to use visualize these things together.
So I see myself in the sun washing my hair with shampoo, then see myself pour soup in my favorite shoe, I have a tree I see myself pulling carrots off of, and a hive made out of toilet paper...
The base never changes, but what you visualize does.
I hope these are helpful even if none works for this situation.
