I'm planting two to three trees in a single "hole", 24" apart. Minimum hole size for one tree 3' x 3' from guidance I read. The 6' x 4' hole is for a pair of trees (Anna and Ein Shemer).

We bought a live Christmas tree shortly after moving here 43 years ago. After Christmas we put it in a galvanized tub in the basement...the ground was frozen. The ground
stayed frozen that year 'til sometime in April. I finally got a hole dug enough to set the root ball in, barely, covered it up and watered it. That's all it's ever had done to / for it; it's got to be 40' tall now, maybe more. Any more & the FAA's going to make me put a red blinking light at the top to keep planes from hitting it
