I'm planting two to three trees in a single "hole", 24" apart. Minimum hole size for one tree 3' x 3' from guidance I read. The 6' x 4' hole is for a pair of trees (Anna and Ein Shemer).

We bought a live Christmas tree shortly after moving here 43 years ago. After Christmas we put it in a galvanized tub in the basement...the ground was frozen. The ground stayed frozen that year 'til sometime in April. I finally got a hole dug enough to set the root ball in, barely, covered it up and watered it. That's all it's ever had done to / for it; it's got to be 40' tall now, maybe more. Any more & the FAA's going to make me put a red blinking light at the top to keep planes from hitting it

Yep former owner did he same here. Monster trees now. $1500 dollars later they've been trimmed and removed.

I'm doing multiple trees per hole (see this link):

Tighter spacing, will be keeping them small with pruning. Different approach than traditional.

What happened to everything being bigger in Texas?

Seriously, though, they need to be kept short enough for me to manage, and keeping them small means more trees in less space. We'll see how it goes.
Quote: Will do, but they'll be ugly first year because I'll need to do the big pruning for size/structure in the spring.
