and this one too!!

TJ egg update.
So it is day 22/23. Bator is at 99- 99.5 so not really cold.
2 chicks out and one pipped.
It seems like these guys need the extra time.

Chicks are yellow and single combed but have a wide comb area (almost thought they were pea combed -suspect they are hetero) and they look like they will be crested
ep.gif

Clean white (not yellow I think) legs.
So mom is likely leghorn but dad could be anything. Oh well at least it is not Silkie!

The ayam cemani hatched just fine -in fact early with same temp setting.

I reluctantly put the bator temp up to 100.5 (checked with clinical Mercury thermometer).

Reluctantly as I have 3 dozen new eggs in there and don't want to cook them, but really not sure it is the right thing to do. Thinking that I may put it back down to 99.5 when I get home from work.

update?

Now I'm being tempted to order some.

do it!!

mine get chased around by my kids so much, and we use food to bribe them that as long as you have something that looks remotely edible, they'll get pretty close.

As to the ducks, that's a different story. They are very easily herd where we want... they don't come to you though and they don't stray far from their water pool or their house. LOL

I have a feeling the ducks may never warm up to us. The roosters herd them around the pen, too, LOL
LOL

ROFL!!!!

For those of you city folk, this how KC Strips are manufactured. I don't let our locker cut or freeze any filets, ribeye, or KC strips. Inevitably, they don't know what an 1.5" is. Ha! So I cut, vacuum seal, and freeze here at the house.
Yummy!!!! i cant wait to get cows!!

Anyone here have saltwater fish tank.i will probably be gettino a 60 or 120 gallon for black Friday and moving to saltwater
yes, i took pics the other day, they are VERY expensive to get going

Ever just have one of those mornings where the world is against you?

Woke up a bit later than usual since I was up late last night. Not a big deal but both kids refused to get up with their alarms so they were behind. Kicked them out of bed and went to the kitchen to let the dogs out. I found that my husky had diarrhea on the floor and peed too. She's 12 years old so it happens now and then, and always on days that I'm running behind. Got that all cleaned up and mopped up and start packing the kids lunches. By this time is 6:30, bus comes by 7:10. Daughter comes out, grabs the bag of cereal off the shelves and knocks down a jar of tomato sauce which of course shatters all over the floor that I just mopped and all over her. While I'm taking forever trying to clean my already cleaned up floor again, kids are complaining that they can't buy lunch today which is the Thanksgiving feast at school. I would've been happy to let them buy, especially today, but I checked their lunch accounts and they spent the money I put in there for them already on snacks and junk at the snack store, something they know they're not allowed to do. Finally get all that cleaned up (dogs whining in the background the whole time, demanding breakfast) and finish packing their lunches while my son goes out to start the car. We go to leave, and get outside, and the wrong car is started. Every single morning we take the same car to the bus stop because it takes next to no gas and the clock matches the bus timing. Trivial, I know but at this point, I'm already fuming about everything else. We get in the car and I look and my son has no coat on. It's already pushing 7:10 but now I have to wait for him to go get a coat. We made it up to the stop just in time.

Thank God the chickens and turkeys are here for therapy on days like this because I think I'd have lost my mind by now! Mira came over to give me a big cuddle (though, she probably just wanted to be warm). I tried to get Cocoa but she didn't want held and just got poop all over me instead. Cuddles, Christmas, Eve, and Juliet all pushed together to give me morning turkey hugs though so they made everything melt away.

no.

Yrs, but not for my days in Yellowstone. I put a msr on my Christmas list.
what a bout a life straw??

My guineas slept outside again coz I wasn't about to spend 30 minutes chasing their hides into bed. They were in bed till I came to lock them up, then they dove into the woods at warp speed and then spent the next hour complaining that they weren't in..... One really has to wonder what's going on in those pea brains.
hu.gif
who cares, but i think peas are smarter

We're in the city limits and have had a problem with poachers (bowhunters) in our neighborhood (not uncommon to see one or two 10 or 12 point bucks each year here) - which is really dangerous in a residential neighborhood, of course. Each year around this time the game warden does stakeouts in the neighborhood to catch any...

Hang upside down, restrain, and slit the blood vessels on the sides of the neck. (I use a scalpel.) Relatively painless, humane, and easy for you to control. If you don't have a cone, use a feed sack with a hole cut in the corner of it to restrain them. I think @Pensmaster does it that way, I have a cone.

OK, I gotta go - see you guys later!

- Ant Far,
Nice deer!!

How does bleeding out work?

I've always had my neighbour shoot sick birds, and that was the first way I thought of, but didn't know if it was a good idea.
Hiya phil
just let 'em bleed, i put them over a trashcan for easier clean up

Good morning everyone!!! We have evidence of tapeworms in our laying flock... I used ivermectin on the teenagers a few weeks ago... The hens are either molting, or just starting to. Is it ok for me to treat them now? I used a pea size amount on a piece of bread for the 4 month olds. Any thoughts on how much I should give the big girls? I was planning on eyeballing it to "just a touch more"...

In hatching news, I am waiting for Blue Silveruud eggs from @cree57i - Walli Johnson and J-Bar stock. SO excited!!!

Thanks in advance for any worming tips!!!
@casportpony @Sally Sunshine
For tapers you need something with praziquantel. What do you have?
