EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Another of baby Carson....
Sitting in blind listening to a podcast on the history of steam engines
He's adorable! What podcast?

Quote: Interesting - like how they leave the feet (and I think head) on Bresse... I harvest by myself as well. I've done up to 12 in a day, but have accepted that it's only really reasonable to try to do 5 or 6 in a day from now on.

Interesting about the lemongrass as bee attractant - I have lots of bees in my garden.

Re: the sweater - the best part is that that's Will Wheaton. Hysterical!

To everyone else, Happy Thanksgiving!
Remind me again - when is/was your Thanksgiving up there?

ROFL!! Now that's a good idea.

It ended up being delish anyways, even if I did have to wait....

Well, make note of it for Christmas, Easter, and next Thanksgiving.
My kids have come to expect it, and if there isnt a piece missing they ask 'did mom make the pie this year?????'

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I hope everyone enjoyed their day of thanks, and filled their bellies to the brim!!!

I haven't been around, in case anyone noticed, so I thought I'd drop in to say howdy. HOWDY!

I've been staying busy with my RIR's, and it seems like there's something new to do every day. Not long ago I picked up a trio of top-notch reds, so I was already thankful for that. Just today, two of my pullets decided to start laying. Yet another thing to be thankful of! I figured I'd have to induce laying with artificial lighting around the end of January so they'd be ready to start the breeding process in early February. Looks like they don't care about the days getting shorter after all... lol! As of right now, I'm only focusing on breeding the new trio, but I've brought one of the original pullets over to the trio pen because she has a better tail angle. She has a little excess black, but I'm going to use her anyway. Who knows... I might get lucky and they'll throw some beautiful chicks. Time will tell.

It's been awhile, so here's a video of my birds as they are now. The video starts in the pen with my original birds, and ends in the pen with the new trio (now a quad)...

Thank you!

And thank you again!!!

I miss hanging out here. I had a busy day (again) since a couple of my reds decided to start laying. I already had nesting boxes built for my original birds, but had to build another for my new birds. Got it done and straw in all of them, then it was off to fix a jammed pump. Always something needing tended to around here...
