When I was still at home we would all go out and cut a tree. My brother was the measuring stick one year. He could reach 8 feet since that was the height of the ceiling he reached up and just for good measure added a few more feet to his estimate. Let's just say the tree went from the front hood over the top of the Pontiac station wagon to the back. Our neighbor who was a CHP officer saw us and gave us an escort home. We ended up cutting enough off to make another tree for our room.

We didn't have a TV then, they may have been invented by then but mom didn't want that poison in the house. We had a record player and radio for entertainment. Memories.

When I was young... Lol! 40 now so not as far back! We would listen to Alvin and the Chipmunk's Christmas cassette tape on the radio in the dark with the new snagged from state land Christmas tree all lit up. Then some old Christmas songs, Bing Crosby etc..
Dad always found a big nice tree, un manicured of course, and way too tall, worked out OK cause once you cut the top and bottom down to fit had plenty of branches to stuff and fit in the gaps.
We now our family have bought many trees through the yrs, gave it up and bought a fake a few yrs ago...
I don't think we will be using the fake one again, our oldest DD's boyfriend's family owns one of the biggest Christmas tree farms in the area, she's been working non-stop trimming trees all summer, last few weeks helping cut and bale, making wreaths and kissing balls. She has said we are not using a fake tree this yr Lol! :-D
