Try comparing it to an oral/ medical thermometer. They are very accurate and being close to incubation temperature, it will really show the accuracy of your thermometer.
I've had thermometers that were accurate at low temp and way off at incubation temp.
What breed is she?
Pretty late in the year for a hen that just recently raised chicks.
We used to make cages out of welded wire fencing and a few pieces of lath or small dimension lumber and baling wire. It doesn't have to be much. Just to hold a chicken, water and food and be able to suspend it.

I look at candling differently than most. Probably cause I can barely see into the egg and can only tell the difference between a clear and a dark mass.
I don't remove anything that isn't leaking or stinking unless it is completely clear at 18 days.
I may have miscalculated the date but I once had an egg that hadn't hatched on day 24 and did an eggtopsy only to find a live chick about to hatch.
X2
I had a little yellow and clear dome spaceship looking thing that came with quail eggs when I was little. I didn't know what I was doing and nothing hatched.
