@mlm Mike Did you end up with any project pullets?

@Sally Sunshine Will you ask your old girl nicely to please start laying again this spring?
So did your buckling figure out this job with a bit more age?

Sally I'll join you!
sounds like a plan !!!

@DwayneNLiz I would put the shock collar on the husband and the dog!

I have had a dead chicken from the dog's neck before but I left it until it rotted off on its own. The dog was not happy and stunk horribly but it never did kill another chicken

I want to try a nobark collar on the goats!!!

Sorry for the late comments, but I was in the blind all day. The laptop out there allows me to keep up, but not reply...BYC has the idea that I have it blocked. I'd get it straightened out, but this 'puter's going out there after Christmas, so it'll no longer be an issue.

Bubbles and anyone else with dogs who are wise to "hot collars":
Try using a "dummy" collar. Leave it on the dog whenever it's not wearing the active collar. Dummy collar are the same weight & shape, and look just like the active one. It's the rare dog that can tell the difference, so he/she behaves, thinking the shock or vibration will get him if he doesn't. I used the cheapy knockoff collar in the beginning; it was what I could afford. As soon as I was able, I upgraded to a Tri-Tronics; the best on the market then & probably still...best dog-training money I ever spent.

Sally You asked whether I'd tried the apple cider yet. I totally missed the reference...sorry

@BantyChooks ,@Sally Sunshine
I said it a few times, take a quart of apple cider and run it down some trees and brush, or put in a spray bottle, try that for big bucks.

I am very curious about what to do with the egg the veins are still big an d healthy no death ring so the baby has to be alive right. ??? Please help

give it to a broody?

Good evening everyone. I got deposits on the other two kids tonight so I am good to go. Chores are almost done. Then I can catch up.

I have turned off all humidity, my hygrometer is still reading right around 20% but I figure that is still lower than what I was running and hoping that should do the trick with the air cell. (I'm actually afraid to run it much lower than that, I'm afraid of shrink wrapping the poor chickadee's) I just read on here that temps should be at 102 degrees for still air, mine was being kept at about 100.5-101 so I have bumped that up slowly throughout the day. I candled one egg that I had not done in a few days, and it's seems to be perfect! Great veins, good air cell, taking up most of the egg. If the other eggs look like that one, in hoping they will be in good shape to hatch in 5 days! Oh I can't wait

I appreciate all the great, detailed and informative information here! Truly truly better than anything I've been finding else where the last few weeks leading up to my first incubation. Thank you!
@Ladyfarm you very welcome! Yes, dont go below 20% at any point. remember you can candle more than days 7 14 18 to keep better track of the air cells. just start to candle every other day from day 10 and stop when you see drawdown. or lockdown.

you know you will have to run the best humidity for the MAJORITY of the hatch. Dont ever make changes for just one egg.

Questions just tag me and I am sure Paddler and the others can help you plenty as well!!

Good luck!!
