EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Pray for the families of the two twelve year olds that died after falling through the ice last night in I think it was Indiana.

:-( prayers. For many.
We just had near us a couple young kids playing in a large snowbank get burried by a snowplow. Only one survived :'(
Makes me hug my kids a little harder.

Ever used ground duck for anything besides burger?

No, but should have. Just like beef. Haven't had ducks in a few yrs, miss them. Thinking of getting some ancona hatching eggs from minihorse. Predators on free ranging here though not good. Thinking of fencing in our pond and running a electric fence around it.

Maybe for some people.

Anyone who has or who ever has had a horse, what do they cost roughly to keep? And how much space to they need, stable wise.
Well, with good ground they need 2.5-3 acres not to tear it up and need hay. You need to at least trim hooves every eight weeks or so which varies in cost. Stalls or loafing shed at least 8' st the short end and a minimum of 10x10. With vaccines, feed, and other care I would estimate around $100 per month. It can be a bit less if you have lots of pasture, and more if your farrier and hay costs are high. Hay around here for Bermuda is five or six a bale. Good hay is essential as they are not ruminants and can easily get lung or digestive issues. Mold is deadly.

Work: production is up from 20/ month to 45/ month same crew
Family: Dad is 100 years old today and family is arriving from everywhere
Chickens: its raining cats and dogs and keeping them dry in the remaining hours has me beat.

Oh and still have touch of the flu/cold since Thanksgiving.

really no excuse though I'll try to do better. :lau
