EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

:love

Awwww. first underaged sex and now this. Poor thing... :hugs
I'm psyched that the 22% one hatched - just hope it thrives (trying to be both hopeful and prepare myself for the worst).

Off to go stare at the hatching eggs some more...

That's an interesting way to put it.....

I need to show y'al how bad Torvi's saddles were. I'd guess they took up 3/4 of the egg... She's fine, albeit tiny.

Quote: Yum, haven't had PB and banana sandwich in a long time.

Up to 6! And there's a pip or small zip.

Congrats!

Well, I guess it's good I brought Maple in.... Frostbite on her feet is now evident, they're really swollen.

I should have brought her in with Georgia, but I thought she'd be fine.... I was wrong. I hope she keeps her toes; two permanent house birds is too much!
Sorry Banti.

Just got home - look what I found!!!!!

It hadn't even pipped when I left the house at 11am, looks wet and tired, but managed to hurl itself across the hatcher, so there's at least some strength there. This was one of the Marans eggs - in fact, it was the one that had lost 22.15% weight by day 18!!!!!

(I think s/he was like "there's no more room in here, let me out!!!")

S/he's wet and huffing/puffing, looks like s/he just hatched, so I'll withhold assessment of strength and vigor for now. Meanwhile, one of the NN x GNH eggs that had a big "karate chop" pip this morning is enlarging the pip, will zip soon, and another of the marans eggs has pipped as well. So only 6 total eggs out of 16 not pipped yet.

I need to go to chores (water changing mostly), then I'll come back in and alternate read-back and staring at the hatcher...

Congratulations!

So ummmm I may be on my way to becoming a hatching addict......

My uncle is letting us borrow his styrofoam incubator. It needs to be cleaned (it's been sitting for a few years) but other than that looks good.

Sweet!

Great news, I don't know how she was hiding in the smaller coop, but my hen was inside when I got home so I missed her last night. There is no way in or out of the run unless I open it so she was hiding somewhere between hens which is highly unusual for her since she is low man.. I am happy

My black banty cochin was a pullet until a few weeks ago. Feathered pullet from hatch.
