EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Caught plenty of chickens and have run over one as well. Now it's in a more out of way place.
lol, the trap (he put out) was on the side of the path down to the barn next to the wood pile on a stump, he was attempting to back down the path to get a load of fire wood

THEY ARE CALLED MIRRORS!!!! THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON

A very acceptable accident he was getting wood after all. My collision was more of a smash due to it being in between an extra culvert pipe and pallets. Tractor hit the culvert pipe and pushed it into trap.

Most western county in the state just went under the SEP a couple hours ago; I guess it's on the way, in the form of ice. :(

Bleh, I was surprised this morning to see that there was nothing on the ground. I left the birds or, they were all happy and running around then the snow started. It's only been snowing about a half hour and the ground is covered. We're speed to get that icy junk on top of it :/

I was surprised to see sub zero temps. I thought we were warming and was looking forward to 20 above.

We have a glaze of ice this morning. I just let the roosters out of their coop and it was pretty chuckleatious watching them slip slide their way down the ramp.

The brunt of the storm is going to hit us tonight and tomorrow. They are still calling for 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of ice for us and we are still under a winter ice storm warning.

DH spread stove ash up the path to the coop for me so walking isn't bad as long as I stay on the path.

Quote: I need to get netting over my chicken yard. Just bought a roll of it, but I'm contemplating taking the fence up to 6-6.5' so I can walk under the net w/o raising it only in the center. Stupid chickens fly over it now (only 4') just 'cause they can. I didn't turn them out to range yesterday, but 4 of the 9 flew out anyway. Don't need my friendly neighborhood hawk, likely a Red-tail, picking off another one. Started off with 17, 13 of them pullets; down to 6 pullets, 2 layers, & the rooster now. Get much lower & I'll have to set another batch in the Spring.
Yeah, my roosters plus streamers overhead have avoided losses the heavy hawk pressure here, but with my escapees, I need to get cover overhead, I think. I have a lot of thinking to do about paddock arrangement - gives me a headache thinking about it!

Quote: Extra large by weight (64-65 grams usually) pretty much almost every day. Last to stop and first to restart after molt.

Quote: Aren't we all! Sure looks like it.

It's drizzly and rainy, but I have brooders to build and chores to do... Candled the Day 7 eggs - I'll post separately about them.
