because u can't check diffrente spots in the bator the only holes are right above the heating elementI love the story of the Seminoles too. They were never everglade dwellers before being forced from their native territory.
What confuses you about using the spot check? You turn it on, stick the probe into the vent hole and read the temperature. What don't you understand?
And what does "and you thato better" mean?

I have had all the GFF legbar lines in my time and prefer the first import by far for eggs, and the fact that they were the line that carried the recessive white gene.
Their eggs were the largest, and the bluest.
The second line of birds were truly nasty. viscous roos and hens that laid micro eggs once in a while (but they were blue).
The Rees line birds laid eggs that were slightly greener and the eggs were not large.
At one point I had about 25 POL white legbar pullets and no-one wanted them. Ended us selling them for about $7 each to someone who was going to resell them. Just did not have space for them.
The while legbar roo who was a total sweetie got killed defending the girls.
Wish I had a couple now.
That's a shame. I have a good CL rooster (Dumbledore) from a breeder, who has pre-Rees CLs, though I don't recall which line. She says he hatched from a nice blue egg - he was a cull for a crooked comb. But all the boys I've hatched from him and my CL girls (who are hatchery girls, all pre-Rees) have been monsters. I only really have one decent foundation hen, good saturation but blue green egg, not as reliable a layer as her two "sisters". Well, one "sister" died of avian leukosis (but not until after giving it to her daughter and exposing an entire group of chicks that had to be destroyed), and the other sister is not a great example feathering/crest-wise AND has ocular Mareks (though she's still alive 2 years later, thanks to the love of her doting rooster, and laying pale blue eggs like there's no tomorrow). This single good hen (Lissa) has been a healthy, moderate layer, and her daughters are the Three Witches. I'm not prepared to destroy them because Dumbledore and Lissa and Jenny are the first chickens I had, and they have pet status (they live apart from the others). And I enjoy their eggs, as well as the eggs of the Witches. But I think I'd prefer to start over years hence, with different stock.
I will say, they care for themselves well, and hide very effectively. I have no interest in white legbars, as their usual plumage is astoundingly good camouflage.

Hello to everyone
Hi just!!!

pretty!!!! well not the ice and snow but the build so stinking unique!! loveeee I need to move there in one of your places!!
How do you tell which ones are which? I know I have 1 big male tom - but i'm not 100% sure on my red ones.1 bronze hen, 1 Narrangsett hen, 1 blue slate hen, 1 royal palm hen, 1 lavender hen, 2 that are buff/sweet grass/pencilled and then I have a pair of red slates. And I am looking into getting a new tom.
This is my big tom - when he's relaxed, his snood hangs down WAY down his face. LOL
It's like a little weenie. He sucks it up when he's stressed, and when he's calm, it hangs down. It's the funniest thing to watch. ^.^
TRying to find pictures of them - here, you can see our female slate hen, compared to our boy.... If I compare the red ones, they aree more "henlike" these days, but I'm not 100% sure.
always cute images kaj!!
dawwww cOGNRATS!I came home early to a bunch of chicks! Four of the five OE babies had hatched, and were all dry (so hatched in the morning), and were miserable in their net bag, so even though there were a couple more pips, I quickly freed them and moved to the brooder while putting a wet sponge in the hatcher - fortunately, this hatcher comes back to temp and humidity very fast. Also, "Switch's" egg hatched, and it's fully feathers, so NOT Switch's baby. Probably Polly, the hatchery NH.And one of Puppy's babies was also wandering around, unfettered - looks exactly like daddy.![]()
Since I've been home, the final OE egg hatched (in the bag), I rescued the "Switch" chick in a solo bag (miserable little thing), and moved it and Puppy's baby into the brooder. All babies have colored leg bands - I'll have to check/swap out in a couple days (no time to finesse a larger diameter, so they will grow out of them a bit sooner). The last OE chick is drying off right now, and three of the four remaining Puppy eggs has pipped. I hate opening the 'bator when eggs have pipped, but these chicks were struggling in the net bags - hoping they'll be ok. (they also got rolled all over creation).
Here's the first chick to wander out to see me:

holy Thanksgiving meals!!I posted this on the turkey thread but I know most of you do not go there.
I have my old Tom, JJ. He is the rusty Slate in the video. He is my bodyguard/Secret Service agent. The Royal Palms are you Toms that want to hit me from behind and challenge me all the time.
Watch JJ come in between the Royal Palms and myself and run their butts away from me. JJ does this all day long he follows me and "protects" me from these young guys.

Yup - lots of things to commend the Black Minorca in my book. I just need to reign myself in - though if I got them, I would finally get the last missing egg color in my basket (white!).
Ralphie, I very well may order hatching eggs from you next year if I can get some of your non-white Legbars - lovely!!!! And maybe some toad eggs if your flock development goes as hoped...
(There I am again, getting ahead of myself...)
Quote: Thanks!!!! I know it's only Day 20, but I'm impatient for the Puppy eggs to hatch - I won't believe they're ok until they hatch.... And I want Puppy babies in the worst way.....![]()
(I've been constantly looking at American Buff pictures and it's ALL YOUR FAULT!!!! OK, well it's your GOOSERZ' fault - little cutie...)
