EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

...Hopefully, I can make her better with sleep and nutrition.
The best medicine.

People that don't spay and neuter their critters annoy me. Then when they dump them in the country because they have too many since they don't do it they really annoying me.
I don't want them and can't afford them. The last one I paid to drop at the pound. This one I think I will just drop back in town.

Amen.
There's no shortage of dogs and cats in the world. Or humans for that matter.
Maybe some that don't spay/neuter and dump animals should find their way into a trap themselves.

I already have two adopted cats inside and a feral cat outside that showed up at about five months old that I trapped, had spayed and I fed for three and a half years before she let me touch her, and even now it is only where I feed her. She does follow me around while I do chores

I just don't want and can't afford more. I have too many mouthed as it is. I get to decide not inconsiderate irresponsible people.
Ferals that find a trap never see the light of day again here.

The worst killer's in the animal kingdom are MOSQUITOES and I really want to see how you can avoiding them.......
And tha end of the world could be every time that you cross the road. .
Avoid mosquitos by wearing long sleeves; load up on deet, lemongrass, rosemary, eucalyptus, lavender and anise; avoid outdoors dawn, dusk and first couple hours of dark (peak feeding times); mosquito netting, burn mosquito coils in living quarters, stay in the wind and don't stand still in the Sian Ka'an biosphere preserve.

The only reason I'd have to cross the road would be to retrieve the chicken that had crossed in front of me, before Dax could run over it with her semi So you actually saying that Dax could be the "world ender" to you and your's chicken?
Anything's possible. You never know who's out to get you, or when, or why. It's all really very scary.
What I mean is, "I want to go the Heaven, but I don't want to go tonight"

(maybe they won't see me if I hide under this chair & try to make myself really, really small).
Shhhh....don't give me away, at least 'til I finish my coffee.

Yeah, I always have a spare.

I'm just glad I dumped mine, or I'd have to stomp on them for a while.....
When using founts in weather that will be in the 30s/40s during the day but freezing at night, I turn them upside down when I lock up and then just carry a bucket of warm water out in the morning to top them off. That ice cube will melt during the day.

I use the metal/steel water founts and a heated base. I have to chip the water out of the trough part on some days as it is ice but not frozen solid a lot of the time. I also have rubber "dog" dishes I can put water in and break the ice out the next day. The chickens learn to drink fast when I give them their water.

The double digit below zero days are not a fun time for me as I have to go out and water them everyday. There is no good waterer for the real cold. I have tried hay bales and insulation around the waterers, that does not help either.

I have a petition going to petition God to change the freezing temp for water to -20F. I think it is looking hopeful.
When I perfect my heated circulated breeding pen water system I'll share it with you after I apply for a patent.

Did you get Pen's picture?

Yes I did. Sorry I didn't reply. He'll be sans comb points but he'll be fine.

We are in such different climates, I doubt anything you do would work here. That Ice cube would not melt here without 5,000 gallons of boiling water poured over it...

but you're willing to come get my pigs
lol.png
Darn tootin! just gotta talk my hubby into it
hmm.png

I'd bet my last dollar that pigs ain't all she's aiming for...
QUIET YOU! but i really do want her piggies

I should add.... You know all the freaky stuff about my house? Yeah, I bought it for the 1.6 acres in town (across the street form work!!!!) and several 100+ year old oaks. Houses come and go, but it's all about the land and trees. I remember thinking, "I'll friggin' CAMP on this property, but I'm not passing this up!" Realtor said the house needed too much work. I said, don't care, I want the lot.

(Remind me of this the next time I complain that an electrician has to come look at some wacko thing the previous owner did...)
LOL, can do

yeah. She would steal my calls

Is it bad that I am constantly checking the tracking on my goose eggs and they aren't even supposed to be here till Thursday?
LOL, youre hopeless

Have you ever used the buy/sell threads on here?

I am thinking of listing some legbar eggs.
you should! or on the 24 hour auction, buy it now thread, or you could do a game for them :)

My rubber pans have frozen so hard at times that It does no good to stomp them, I have extras, so when one freezes that bad, I replace it with another, bringing the 1st one in to thaw in front of the wood stove.

I dump em before bed... Problem solved

Morning all.
Thanks to all for your mini vacation well wishes.
Moved a couple hens before dawn to the pen of a lonely old rooster. (they'll likely fly the coop and go back home while I'm gone)
Setting up a brooder on the back porch and off to check how many chicks hatched overnight.

Skeeters are so big here I saw one carry off a large duck one day. Too bad Ralphie wasn't here to see it.
