One of the  ugliest places I went to was by Phils, I flew into Marquette it was about 20 below wind from the northwest at about 30 with gust to 40  in an inversion.   I nearly kissed the ground when we got down....

Of course we were only there 20-30 minutes and out again, which was fun again...

The wind across that lake is very very cold.

Oh.

Which Airbase?

That sounds like Grand Forks or Fairbanks.

It would have been KI Sawyer AFB..... Now airport..... And brother you were 4 miles from my house .

Fargo, ND. I was outside for about half an hour with a T-shirt and jeans. It was -40 with the windchill. I never noticed the cold.

Lots of alcohol can do that do a person,,,,

That was a long time ago, I am guessing early 80s.

That doesn't look right, I thought the final approach was over the lake with the middle marker actually in the lake. Was there a different airport there in the early 80s?

I've been here since 82.....was it the Air Force Base you landed at

I don't think so, I was flying air ambulance and I had emergency Doc and nurses with. They were not a happy bunch when we landed. the Ambulance took them to the hospital picked the person up, and came back, loaded him and off we went.

I never left the airport. I was at an FBO but not for long, I filed the return trip got clearances and the ambulance was back,,,BUT your weather vacuumed!

They all kind of run together though so I could be wrong, BUT I remember being on final and breaking out to see water below me, and not much else.
