EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Thanks! I got that diagnosis on another thread earlier tonight - I had no idea, felt very dumb and very guilty for missing it, and being lax for checking my birds (who I need to start doing more careful health checks on). I read a LOT of different cures/advice, etc., and have been discussing with Beekissed on the Breeding for Production thread tonight. I pulled him off the roost tonight for the first foot soak (he was sweet), and coated legs with castor oil (following Beekissed's recommendation from her experience). I'm going to also check and treat everyone else while I'm at it, starting with the four other birds with feathered legs... I'm going to do it every night for about a week and see how it's going - I didn't have things set up well tonight (I'm doing this alone) so the oil application wasn't as thorough as it should have/could have been. I'll be better prepared tomorrow.:thumbsup

You can also spray with permethrin. See the thread permethrin spray. Good luck. It reminds me I need to check.

Good morning everyone. I am going to send a card to Ken (kwhites634) today. Let me know if you want a message in the card.

Prayers for SALLY. Who has surgery today.

This thread is amazing thank you. I am new to hatching and can use all the info I can get. Since I'm here can I ask if anybody can direct me in the right direction regarding antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications for newborn chick? I have made toast and hijacked a few other people's post because I wasn't getting any responses LOL but I'm so desperate for help and I'm going to my panicky new chicken mama phase! I have a chick that I thought had spay leg, leg going almost straight back. After doing research and paying her little legs together with the brace I realize that the left foot was twisted slightly towards the body and the foot was not completely touching the ground. So I read about the slip tendon and tried to feel around but it was too swollen so I taped it with a Band-Aid and part of the Band-Aid stuck to her skin and although I tried to be very gentle I believe I may have taken a little bit of skin off or maybe the world was there before I'm not sure. Anyway I am now working for any advice or success stories. I would like to start her on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory but I'm not sure what is safe for newborn chicks and Google has a lot of mixed reviews so they come here hoping that the experts can help me. Thank you !!!!:D:bow

@tedschickensHi, she is right on casportpony Kathy is great, but she is left coast so may not be up yet.
As to the leg stuff we have notes on cups, swings, rubber bands, etc. in the notes section on the first page of this thread. I wish you better luck than I have had :fl.
