EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

that was this morning, yes   we are in the blue mnts so we get a bit more at elevation, although not really that high :lau

It was about fifty this morning. Duckling was out without a coat. The snow was already gone in some places. Tonight, it's barely there. Even the stuff that was to my crotch is just about an inch. Rain all day tomorrow.

I knew what it was, not how to treat it
I saw your post today, the pup had started using her hind legs near posting that last night, so I was on the floor with her. she was walking a bit more throughout the night and today she is walking but still has a long long way to go to get healthy. Thank you Fire

GASP...the blue eyed goat is soooooo adorable.

As for bandaging for bumblefoot, I had two hens and a cockerel with it last year. I finally decided they were picking up thorns from digging around in orchard grass. I tried using the single vet rap strip cut into three 'fingers' and gave up after trying to hold a rooster who didn't want to be held. You can only throw so many wads of vet wrap in the trash before you star to mentally say "Ka CHING" and see dollar signs flash before your eyes.

I did a stint as a wound nurse once upon a time and drew on that experience. First, get everything ready before you start. I take a one foot length of vetwrap and split it into two 1.5 inch strips and hang it up by one end somewhere where it would be close at hand.

Next I dress the wound with a gauze pad and antibiotic ointment. I have the chicken laying on my lap on his or her back. If necessary, I cocoon them in a towel to get them to hold still. Taking one of the strips, anchor it around the leg at the ankel. It usually takes two times around the leg to secure the strip. Then while holding the dressing in place, take the strip and figure 8 it between the toes and ankle, looping it around the toes and back around the ankle. One figure 8 will secure the dressing giving you two hands to work with. The rest is easy peasy. Just keep figure 8 ing the strip around the toes, back around the ankle until you use it up. If you need the second strip, you just repeat the procedure.

If you don't use the second strip it's left over for the next dressing change.
